No problem here with Budgie on ASUS TUF Dash F15 laptop
Solus Updates for Week 5, 2025
Went smoothly. GNOME-SC asked me to restart the computer to apply the updates tho
Everything works fine on my 4 Gnome Devices . I did the last Update with Gnome Software , as a test , and had no Problems . Update my Flatpaks and install some new , works great too . Thx a lot
The update with Discover did not run. It reported an error several times. Unfortunately I don't have a screenshot. Under Solus-sc the update went without problems. Should I better uninstall Solus-Sc? Solus KDE version 4.7.

michaelrupprecht Easy fix. Scroll down to eopkg / Discover errors.
Exactly this error message came up. I ran sudo eopkg dc. Everything is OK. Thank you very much!
Updates worked flawlessly on Budgie using the GNOME "Software Center".
michaelrupprecht Should I better uninstall Solus-Sc? S
I think you should ride it out with SC...some update in the future Solus will deprecate it then 'disappear' it from your system. I'm sad because out of the 3 GUIS the SC is far superior to the other two. I know the reasons, though.
banger VM and Old Bare metal machine upgraded no problem but for some reason my main machine (2019) with GT 1030 the GLX drivers were replaced Nvidia developers drivers and I got a black screen where the login should have been with lots of weird patterns. Went to TTY checked history to see GLX (565) replaced by developer driver (550) so reversed the change back to GLX driver current and rebooted.
Can you post a screenshot or paste of the relevant section of your eopkg history? (the full transaction in which this happened, plus the ones before and after)
Here's a doozy. I just updated my laptop running Solus Plasma (i dont know which release since its been a while since i picked up this laptop to play with solus) and I got the lovely and very much not annoying blank screen on login with cursor. Though oddly I can get the hot corner to activate for workspaces, however theyre all blank. So i try some things in the TTY to no avail, but I need to update eopkg to do more, and i get 5 "failed to fetch file" and Hit max retry count when downloading: "https://cdn.getsol.us/repo/shannon/eopkg-index.xml.xz.sha1sum"
So for those keeping count, I dont have any means to update, which means i have no means to fix whatever broke after this update. I'm seeing posts about video drivers changing, but I cant scroll up and down in the histories on the TTY console prompt outputs because i dont know how, so I cant go see about the drivers names to switch back.
Just for fun i tried again to install the nvidia-glx-driver- current, common, and 32bit. Fails to fetch and git max retry for "https://cdn.getsol.us/repo/shannon/e/egl-wayland/egl-wayland-1.1.17-27.1.x86_64.eopkg"
To be fair i'm not sure if my Toshiba laptop even has nvidia drivers.
Are the servers down again? I will create a help post if its a more appropriate location for this.
brent Thanks for the tip and the quick reply - I will leave Solus-sc as it is.

All work fine after the updates (Solus Gnome).
I don't understand the advantage of gnome sofware vs. Solus' software center, but never mind.

orion99 I don't understand the advantage of gnome sofware vs. Solus' software center, but never mind.
Solus Software-Center still depends on python2. Python2 is basically dead since january 2020. Solus team has been working hard the past years to get rid of python2 on Solus. Part of this enterprise is to deprecate the Solus Software-Center, since Solus has currently not the man-power nor the interest to port Solus Software-Center to python3.
Thats why it was decided to offer Discover and GNOME Software as alternative Software Centers.
This also means one less maintenance burden for Solus.
So, don't fall in love too much with Solus Software-Center. It will disappear in (near?) future.

Sebastian I think many Solus users know that discover
and gnome-software
are really inferior, mediocre programs when compared to the Solus-SC.
Doubling the heartbreak, speaking personally, is that Solus is known for not accepting mediocrity in any form, that's what using gnome-software
to me: a mediocre package manager experience, again, compared to Solus SC.
But thanks for reminding us that Solus' hand was forced with the gigantic python2 hiccup. We have to roll with it.
Solus-SC is disappearing, Budgie gets Wayland-ized any day now, moss is coming, exciting times---I ain't goin' nowhere

banger Well, it seems that for whatever reason you had BOTH nvidia-glx-driver
and nvidia-developer-driver
installed previously, which should never happen without explicitly telling eopkg
to ignore the conflict. Then when it upgraded the nvidia-developer-driver
it checked for conflicts and found that it conflicted with nvidia-glx-driver
, thus removing it (I think there should've been a prompt confirming that, but not sure [especially unsure what would get shown in the Software Center])
That transaction had me confused for a second, but it seems like things are working as intended. The remaining question is of course why both driver packages were installed on your system.
edit: This might also explain your previous FreeCAD issues, if this is the same system.

I tried the developer driver when Freecad didnt work with the current driver. Little did I know Wayland isnt supported yet so it is possible I didnt purge the developer driver when re-installing the current driver.
That would explain it - user error. There werent any prompts to replace. I always upgrade in CLI not SC.
Freecad works in X11 and appimage which I believe has x11 driver but not wayland.
