92 Solus updates (191.75 MiB) processed this morning for another very good result.
It's the new Budgie 10.8 desktop release that's making the news this week.
Among the new features detailed on the Buddies Of Budgie website, what I really enjoy was seeing all the menus translated into my mother language (for me, French).
If you get used to English quite easily because of its dominant position in the world, this new feature in Solus is a real plus. Many thanks to the teams of developers involved for their hard work in making Solus a distribution that counts, what a long way we've come since April this year...
One comment though: @EbonJaeger had published a post on April 25 to suggest installing the budgie-user-indicator-redux-applet for users who prefer a more classic approach over the user-indicator applet.
However, there is now a difference between the 2, as shown in the attached screenshots:

The problem is that the applet budgie-user-indicator-redux-applet contains spelling mistakes. Is it possible to align it with the content of the user-indicator applet or is it not easier finally to give up the budgie-user-indicator-redux-applet and replace it now by the user-indicator applet?

    I've found an issue with the new Budgie that probably won't matter to most folks, but I thought I'd mention it.

    I maintain a set of VMs for all four current Solus editions, plus Xfce. They're useful for confirming reported problems, and for providing screen captures to help answer questions for new users. So that I can quickly return them to a known condition when I start one, I've enabled all of them to hibernate.

    Thus, they can be shut down when I don't need them, but quickly return to a useful state when I start one of them. Each VM has 4 GB of RAM, and is installed on a virtual hard drive that includes a 6 GiB swap partition.

    After installing this last update and rebooting, I was curious about the new Budgie version. In the VM's four desktops, I started a terminal, Nemo, Firefox, and the Budgie desktop settings. After exploring a bit, I told the system to hibernate. But when I launched the VM again, that previous session was not present. The desktops were all empty, and of course, none of those applications was running.

    I have no idea whether the session wasn't copied to swap before the VM was shut down, or it couldn't be restored from swap when it was restarted. I just know that hibernating didn't work. As I said in the beginning, this "problem" probably won't affect many people at all. But all my other Solus VMs hibernate and restore as they should (and so did Budgie), so something's definitely not working with my new Budgie VM.

    clipit runs but doesn't show up in the tray anymore. I've already removed it from my autostart and added it again but no joy.

      Icons for Variety and Proton vpn do not show correctly in the tray bar. Only a white square.

        The network indicator in Budgie 10.8 is now huge and the other indicators have not changed size compared to 10.7. Is it supposed to be like this?

              Yes, I prefer budgie-user-indicator-redux applet! And I can hide some items in its settings like hibernate bcs I never use it.

                tflovik the network indicator is an indicator in the system tray, which now scales icon sizes with the panel size. Some of the other applets don't have this. Yet.

                    penny-farthing The translations are provided by people in the community. If you would like to help correct translations, head on over to the Budgie Transifex site. 🙂

                      Silversurfer the icon that the application specifies needs to exist in the icon theme or some form of recognizable fallback (many provide their own icon), otherwise GTK will render the not found image.

                      That said, the icon for Variety shows up fine for me. Did you install it from the Solus repository?

                        Variety installed from the repository, so is Proton Vpn! they both worked before I updated.. so something happened after that. And I had used my own icon in variety!!!!! So why does Proton vpn icon not work??
