Well, here we are again to take another look at Bodhi:

Note that the four default workspaces are displayed on the desktop. If nothing else, that should give you a good idea what multiple workspaces are all about.
Solus Budgie makes it incredibly easy to add 4 workspaces to your desktop, right in the Budgie Desktop Settings, but this is even easier. They're already there right from the start. You could put your email client in one of those, your browser in another, your file manager in yet another desktop, and save the last one to open a termina. Then just a mouse click would be enough to change from one to the other.
