how long are we going to stay on an EOL kernel ?

Currently it's waiting on DataDrake to build and push them. She's been busy with the Solus reorganization and moving apartments otherwise she would have done so by now.

Also, many of the Solus maintainers are subscribed to kernel security advisories. If there was some truly critical CVE we'd backport the fix to 5.14.

personally ive been waiting for 5.15 or newer for a long time, with earlier kernels the power usage of my 6800xt dont go below 31W, and thus it stays hot all the time. 5.15 and later drops the idle wattage to, iirc, 5W and the temps drop around 20 degrees C

tomscharbach since ur asking im happy with the current solution ( one lts and a very current one)
although i prefer the manjaro approach where you can choose your own kernels from a whole bunch, but i know that requires a lot of extra work so the current way is fine with me

Lucien_Lachance personally ive been waiting for 5.15 or newer for a long time,

at dev tracker when they were testing 5.15 I was in a small testing minority that couldn't even boot with that kernel. I can wait🙂! those are probably the last kinks getting worked out. Hoping for the best.

There have been no test packages available for 5.16 at all. It remains to be seen whether @DataDrake will go that route or just push the packages to unstable to test that way.

ReillyBrogan I plan on landing 5.15 soon because we want to evaluate it as a future LTS release. After that, we'll probably hop to 5.17 when it is stable.

As a FYI, I notice that Zorin 16 is holding at 5.13, also past EOL. Usually, Zorin is reasonably current.

Testing the new 5.15.26-211 on my Lenovo Carbon x1 gen 6: so far so good!

I updated my Intel desktop computer today in the morning, and 5.15.26 seems to be working fine. Later on I'll update my AMD laptop and I'll share how it goes.

Fine on an AMD 9220e-A9. Of course, that's a low-end ancient (circa 2017) processor.

No issues on Intel, but no surprise there. Intel and the kernel developers work hand and glove.

Here after the last kernel update, I am having issues when going into sleep state, after restart , the system is frozen.

ReillyBrogan is a radeon RX6600 XT, not having any issues on 5.14.21-210.

jacojacker I believe you are encountering this issue, which another Solus user experienced back in December when we were first testing the 5.15 kernel. It seems to affect anyone with a RDNA2 GPU.

Yes, it seems the same issue, apparently solved on 5.16 so I would've to wait until that kernel is released.
