Lucien_Lachance Unfortunately the one-time donations aren't part of any tier and thus perks aren't a part of it. Only the ones designated "membership", which are monthly, have perks associated. It is billed monthly since generally it is easier for people to budget around and is easier on the administrative side, especially with the tooling.

@WetGeek The contributor's name is published with various tier information in the public JSON however as far as I am aware that can be anything. The email, as far as I can tell, is not public and is only accessible in our CSV export, which is what we will be using to add people to SendGrid mailing lists to facilitate email delivery required associated with the perk tiers (since OpenCollective does not provide these tools themselves). You can donate anonymously / incognito, which keeps it out of the public data, however we still see it in our export.

Thanks. I'll give that a try. I assume they didn't try to use your forum username for your credit card. That answers my question.

EDIT: Indeed, that worked just fine. That leaves me wondering what name they used when they charged that to my credit card. There's no way that should have been approved for someone named WetGeek.

Just signed up as as a backer, very happy to do so. This project deserves all the help and thanks possible.

When I read the weekly snapshots part, I wasn't sure if this was late April Fools. I know you've said you don't do April Fools, but iirc you said you won't do weekly snapshots either.. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Just kidding, good to hear you found a suitable platform and got the donation thing finally sorted out. Repository mirrors also sound very good.

@JoshStrobl Considering the other options you had (501c3, etc) this is quite bold: "we have come to the conclusion that the Open Collective platform represents the best fit for our international team and project." Far out!
Congratulations, I'm very excited for you and DD and Solus. From modest beginnings, I can't wait to see what happens next.

@hsmenon Thanks for the comment, however I went ahead and removed it for being off-topic. We are not interested at this moment in time in shipping Solus on any hardware devices however (hypothetical ones or otherwise), given we do not current have the two-stage installer we want (not to mention we would want to develop some form of a support contract, have the hardware in our hands for validation, etc.). In terms of contact, I have joshua AT getsol.us as my Solus email address.

only USD? why no other currencies? 🤔

[deleted] only USD? why no other currencies? 🤔

Maybe because the Open Collective is based in California?

Unless you intend to find a way to contribute currency somehow, it probably doesn't matter. Every financial institution can easily convert your contribution to USD, whether it's done by PayPal, credit card, etc.

WetGeek Maybe because the Open Collective is based in California?

This. The Open Source Collective is a registered nonprofit based out of California. Sites like Patreon might convert the costs to your local currency, but it will ultimately get converted to the currency of the financial entity receiving it.

@Lucien_Lachance Given the amount you donated amounted to basically Crew levels, I manually updated your tier in the SendGrid import to Crew. You should get the emails when they get sent out. Shoot me an email joshua [at] getsol.us if you don't get one today and I'll sort you out.

Same goes for everyone else here. If you donated for a year and it amounts to tier amount x 12, send me an email and I will see what I can do personally. I'll also end up creating a "manual" tier and tweak the SendGrid MLs a bit so I can better keep track of it, but I'd rather do that than all of you be out some fancy ISOs.

Any plans for a merch shop? I would absolutely buy a Solus hoodie if I knew proceeds were going towards development and infrastructure funding.

struggling a bit with the downloads, they die at around 50% and firefox wont resume. luckily wget resumes. heres the wget error: 2021-06-04 15:11:18 (9.93 MB/s) - Connection closed at byte 1080859316. Retrying.
            happened about 4 times

oh and thanks for the manual add!

edit: for others strugging, to use wget the download url would be https://user:pass@getsol.us...

@Lucien_Lachance Just an update. I did make some changes that may help, however I was able to download it successfully regardless. I am 100% open to working to improve it and provide other mechanisms for OpenCollective members to download it though!
