Lucien_Lachance We use GSuite for Business and pay for other functionality than just email, so not really something we would want to open the door to, or manage (like closing email accounts when people cancel, open when they join, etc.)

Finally, one of the most asked questions has been solved. 🙂 I hope it will grow quickly.

i dont mean to make things more complicated than necessary but im uncomfortable with automatic monthly payments, not least cos my income varies a lot. but an annual non-automatic contribution of $300 (12x$25)is doable, at least this year it is. but i guess then id miss out on the perks? how would that work?

cheers on this, will gladly support in future

It's not clear from the Payment Info page whether a different name and email address can be used for the payment, or whether it's taken from the full name and address from the profile. Can they be different? (E.g., there's no field apparent for "Name on the card," so I assume the full name from the profile is used?)

For example, none of my credit cards would recognize WetGeek as my name, and PayPal does not have an account for my wetgeek email address. But those are the name and email address I would want to use in a Solus-related profile.

I ask because the profile page says the name and email address will be made public. I don't necessarily want my full name and primary email address to be exposed to thousands of Solus users I don't know.

WetGeek I used my forum username and payment was processed through my credit card.

Lucien_Lachance Well, you can make one-time donations but whether you can enjoy perks that way I don't know.

Lucien_Lachance Unfortunately the one-time donations aren't part of any tier and thus perks aren't a part of it. Only the ones designated "membership", which are monthly, have perks associated. It is billed monthly since generally it is easier for people to budget around and is easier on the administrative side, especially with the tooling.

@WetGeek The contributor's name is published with various tier information in the public JSON however as far as I am aware that can be anything. The email, as far as I can tell, is not public and is only accessible in our CSV export, which is what we will be using to add people to SendGrid mailing lists to facilitate email delivery required associated with the perk tiers (since OpenCollective does not provide these tools themselves). You can donate anonymously / incognito, which keeps it out of the public data, however we still see it in our export.

Thanks. I'll give that a try. I assume they didn't try to use your forum username for your credit card. That answers my question.

EDIT: Indeed, that worked just fine. That leaves me wondering what name they used when they charged that to my credit card. There's no way that should have been approved for someone named WetGeek.

Just signed up as as a backer, very happy to do so. This project deserves all the help and thanks possible.
