brent nolan @njakes Didn't see Elysium, will look it up. But I did pop in at IMDB I and I see their similarities, and in fact can see the Elysium scenario someday!--very much an allegory like District Nine (...post-apocalyptic is definitely my favorite genre of sci-fi--probably because it has one foot on this terra.).
Solarmass brent District 9 and Elysium were directed by Neill Blomkamp. District 9 is his best movie and also his the first one. Elysium has good special effects, but movie is average...
brent Solarmass That's the tie-in. I knew with two huge stars something would be amiss...it always is. Wil give it a whirl though someday. One made Contact which was awesome but not sci-fi..much. One made The Martian which I never was interested in seeing. In fact nobody mentioned Mars movies on this list yet. Or Event Horizon (wanted to see it but have not)? Astronaut's wife? never saw Flatliners was wild when I was a kid. Long way to go on this thread, so many fragmentsπ
Brucehankins brent Event Horizon was in my list π That movie messed me up back in the day. I don't believe anyone has listed Arrival (2016) or Source Code (2011)
Solarmass brent Or Event Horizon (wanted to see it but have not)? Event Horizon (1997) was pretty good, definitely recommend it! Also Contact (1997) One made The Martian which I never was interested in seeing. meh π Brucehankins I don't believe anyone has listed Arrival (2016) or Source Code (2011) Both very interesting, worth to rewatch.
brent Brucehankins That movie messed me up back in the day. What would life be without those movies? I missed it from your original list and will look for it. Solarmass definitely recommend it! Also Contact (1997) I liked this one a lot. McConaghey (sp.?) was still Wooderson from Dazed and Confused in this one, but the movie still worked. If you keep up with the lit (I try to) we are still receiving some remarkable radio signals/pulses now and again for which there is no agreed-upon explanation. Cool.
Solarmass What about the Planet of Apes movies? They were pretty good I think: Rise of the Planet of Apes (2011) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)
brent pre-cgi: 2.1 Planet of the Apes (1968) 2.2 Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970) 2.3 Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) 2.4 Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972) 2.5 Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973) π
Solarmass elfprince Lord of the Rings Definitely not sci-fi! Pure fantasy! π brent pre-cgi: Sure there are old ones π
Solarmass elfprince Isn't sc-fi also a fantasy? π π€ π€ π€ MMB Nowadays I only watch Laika and Miyazaki Studio Ghibli movies. Do they qualify? They are all mostly Fantasy I guess. BTW we have an Anime Thread π
MMB Nowadays I only watch Laika and Miyazaki Studio Ghibli movies. Do they qualify? Also Star Trek original TV series and Mission Impossible original TV series And the 1940s and 1950s classic Film Noirs
Solarmass WetGeek That's the title, btw in the Did You Know? section there is a Reference to the For All Mankind (1989) π
