chafporte what edition do you use now and how would you like to use i3? it's usually setup as a replacement for a desktop environment, but there's also a way to integrate it into Mate (I'm not familiar with this method).
I just started with the Solus Budgie iso (as my preferred DE) then installed the i3 package and a composition (picom) ie ' sudo eopkg install i3 picom ' . After that's installed you can log out of your current DE and you should see 'i3' as a login option at your login screen.
If you've never played with i3 before, there's gonna be a bit of manual configuration you'll need to learn and do to get things looking and functioning the way you like.
