What is your favorite Solus edition ?

chafporte yeah, i3 can't be integrated with Budgie. I still have Budgie on my laptop but just login to the i3 session instead. My network connected automatically in i3 (as it must have carried over some preferences from Budgie) but you can also use the nm-applet and probably a volume applet in the i3 system tray. I just use my volume up/down keys to change volume (even if on Budgie) so not a big deal to me.

chafporte I too run a window manager on Solus Budgie, instead of Budgie. Yes, I simply have to specify that my system runs the nm-applet and the volume applet on each startup and places them in the system tray. Other applications can be found and their icons can be placed in the panel if I choose so. Not much of a problem.

Well, I'm a rather new Linux user, tried several different Distros, Mint with the Cinnamon Desktop, Ubuntu with the Gnome Desktop, and then Solus with the Plasma Desktop. I'm having a few problems with the Plasma Desktop on Solus, so I installed KDE Neon on the same Laptop and the problems don't exist! Looks like Solus has a problem or two with their implementation of KDE Plasma.

It's good that Neon is working well for you, but could you tell us more about the problems you're having with Plasma on Solus? I've used Solus Plasma on several computers herre for years, and never had a problem with any of them. Perhaps I could help you if you'll tell us what's not working well for you.

I prefer KDE, because you can tweak that GUI to your heart's desire, right from within itself.

WetGeek Solus is working just fine, but some feature of the KDE Desktop are acting up, not completely functional on my Laptop. I can't get a Battery Status Icon in the Tray, can't load a Battery status Widget either, in fact none of the Widgets (Applets) I've attempted to install or use have worked. The Solus KDE Plasma Tray seems to be a modified version of the usual KDE Plasma Tray, slightly less menu items.

I must say I had way more problems with KDE Neon than I ever had with Solus KDE which I have been using since it came out of beta to stable. Solus KDE just works straight out of the box whereas KDE neon needed extra setting up and tweaking after installation in order to get software to work properly. I just uninstalled it after a few months and went back to distro hopping on that drive, whereas Solus KDE is my main daily driver as stated above.

DJSupertel I very recently tried both Ubuntu/Gnome and then KDE Neon on the same new Laptop, both installed and worked just fine. I however didn't much like the Gnome Desktop. KDE Neon seems to take longer to boot and also to shutdown.

I recently created a KDE Neon VM, and was fairly impressed with it. Its Plasma version is certainly the most up-to-date you can find. Its Ubuntu core is an LTS version, but the KDE components are updated often. As I remember from that VM experience, there were a couple of minor enhancements that I hope will be in Solus KDE before long.

If that runs well on your computer, you should probably go with it. Maybe Solus can be on your next computer.

I recently read an online article that compared Neon to Kubuntu, because they sounded like the same thing, but I don't remember any conclusions from it. You could probably find it quickly with a "Neon vs Kubunu" search if those are the two that interest you.

WetGeek I've read some of them already, basically Kubuntu and KDE Neon are so much alike that the differences are difficult to differentiate. I did try KDE Neon yesterday, it was OK but it had a few minor annoyances that I didn't like.

clauded I wish it were so with my Laptop. Earlier today I installed Fedora Plasma, and after tying it out for a bit, I reinstalled Solus Plasma. Solus installs way faster than Fedora, boots quicker too! Whereas Fedora Plasma gave me a Battery Percentage Icon, Solus has not. Micro$oft's revenge for me installing Linux on one of their Laptops.

Staudey It's simply a KDE configuration option.
KDE on Solus works great but KDE remains KDE: lot's of options to figure out 🙂

Budgie. Best worst DE from what I tried.

KDE - Windows is horrible and KDE is just literally Windows horribleness on crack, geeeez.
GNOME - it's so piss poor, I can't even.
XFCE - simple, but good god, half a pixel window borders to resize?
Budgie - has good ideas, least UX failures and those failure are not deal breaker to me like XFCE, and just lacks major polish.
