I have been a Plasma user since version 5.18.

I started using Solus this week, it's a notebook:

Acer Aspire E 15 (E5-571-33ZU)
i3-4005u 1.7 GHz
Intel HD Graphics 4400

As a notebook, I chose to try GNOME, while maintaining another distribution with Plasma on the PC.

I'm very surprised by the performance of GNOME on Solus, I've never seen GNOME so light and fast.

If I install Solus on PC+NVIDIA, I'll choose Budgie, I only hear compliments.

I'm not a developer, but I'll be promoting the name Solus to the Linux community in my country.

Well, I'm officially a Budgie convert. I was addicted to gnome work flow for a while, especially the hot corner activities overview - it was so nice to fling my cursor to the top corner to see an overview of all running applications and flip between apps accordingly. However, I started to challenge that concept - as nice as the animations have become - because why should you need your screen to morph into an overview mode to see and switch between apps? Also was never a fan of a full screen app grid, though rarely used it as I do like the type to search functionality. That said, I decided to give Budgie another spin to remember what life was like before gnome-shell and yeah.. it's simple, fast, clean, and elegant. I can type to search apps quickly in the Budgie menu without engaging a full screen overview. I can ctrl+tab between running apps, or click on an icon task list, or click on a workspace, or keyboard shortcut to a workspace with the app I want. I can install Albert if I want a launcher with file searching and system reboot/shutdown capabilities. I can install plank if I want a separate app dock (sorry Budgie panel in dock mode doesn't do it for me as Icons don't seem to scale nicely with panel size, and I like Plank's ability to zoom icons as you hover over them). Lastly, no matter how I theme budgie, it looks great. I do realise that these things can ring true for Gnome as well, but it's just nice to be out of the shell.

h3o I recently switched my Solus Plasma installation to Solus Budgie.

And despite the similar workflow, I'm really enjoying Budgie's agility.

Of course, minor adjustments are needed here and there, but overall, the experience is quite satisfactory.

I don't intend to change anytime soon!

I've become used to the GNOME workflow and I can't look back, it's just so good. So GNOME all the way, I guess.

I love solus mate (didn't like budgie). I usually hate gnome, but I've just installed POP!_OS and they have this extraordinary POP SHELL which offers automatic tiling of the windows on the desktop. It is absolutely brilliant! I understand it is easy to install on any gnome distro. Please. you must add it !

I'm really liking Budgie on my desktop. Fast, stable and fairly resource light. And beautiful. I rarely use the raven applet though, as I have a desktop DAC with a volume knob and the calendar doesn't sync with Evolution. I would love Qogir as a theme though.
For the laptop I have recently switched to Gnome in anticipation of Gnome 40's upcoming release.

Why love Solus ?
Many reasons , but one is important for me : the app menu is light , there is not twenty app in each menu , it's easy find what i search .Many distros put too much and that not beginner friendly , it's clean keep it like that .
About desktop , i like every , but i prefer use Plasma had Cube and many effects out of the box and great customisation.

brent I think budgie is compatible with other window managers i want to try if its possible to kill the window manager compositor of budgie and try start a tiling window manager like bspwm if its gonna work im curious

Solus in general is great, but I have to admit I cut whatever environment out and install openbox... But hey, "linux is linux" and it all works. I love your distribution because you have recent, well-maintained software (a fair selection of it), modern hardware drivers, and your package manager never gets in my way when I want to install something from source. Keep up the good work on the repos and package manager!
