It hurts me to see that someone hates Solus.

If it doesn't work the first time, they can re-install it or try another flavour of Solus.

My earlier post mentions a problem with Plasma, wherein I was unable to add a workspace switcher to the panel, and I made it clear that it was a VM--I hadn't tried to install it on hardware yet. Now I have, and the problem's the same on a hardware machine. Damn shame, because I was really enjoying Plasma, and was ready to change my development machine from Budgie to Plasma, at least until I found some reason to return to Budgie.

I didn't realize I'd find that reason this quickly.

JoshStrobl We don't exactly have an army of photographers

You've got me. Would you like some images of animals at the Seattle Zoo, or scenery in the US Pacific Northwest? If so, should I just upload some to the forum?

WetGeek after adding the workplace switcher did you reboot? I just added it on my notebook and it's working after reboot

Another observation after installing stuff today:

A while back I found out that Mate was't handling two monitors very well, and that hasn't changed with 4.1. My dev machine has two large monitors, one connected to VGA and the other connected to HMDI., I haven't been able to configure the displays. The wrong one is my primary display, and when I try to change that, the display settings dialog behaves badly. (The bad behavior is hard to describe, but if this is new information, I'll try to let you know more.)

After attempting to configure the monitors, one of them , one monitor displays garbage at the top of the screen, and is blank otherwise. I don't actually plan to use Mate on that machine, so it's not going to be a big problem for me, but I thought I'd mention it once more.

(I have Budgie, Mate, and Plasma installed on three SSDs that can be hot-swapped to boot that machine accordingly.)

Super excited about the addition of an official Plasma spin. Really well done!

Glad to see another version of Solus! Well done devs! Keep it up!

Girtablulu after adding the workplace switcher did you reboot?

No. I didn't realize it was required. I'll give that a try on my dev machine tomorrow.

I just tried it on my Plasma 4.1 VM, and it's back to the problem I had a while ago: adding workspaces actually adds that many groups of identical workspaces (same contents in each). Rebooting doesn't clear that up.

EDIT: For example, if I change the settings to provide 6 workspaces, I get 6 groups of 6 workspaces. Removing one workspace from one group removes it from all 6 groups. I thought this was fixed, so it may be a regression.

I don't really need the Plasma VM for anything, other than experimenting with it, so if it works correctly on the dev machine tomorrow, I'll be a happy camper.

A very noob question, but can i install Plasma alongside Budgie just to try it out without breaking anything or reinstalling completely?

DNI_R i could be wrong but i believe they have said that that is not recommended. you could always play with the live usb

So far so good on my side πŸ˜ƒ Congrats and f*ck deadlines πŸ˜‚

Today, Solus 4.1 installed, the flight is normal, everything is almost as expected - no problem. The laptop just flies, as expected.
One thing only interests - when will the "megasinс" application appear so as not to run from one OS to another for more convenient use in working with documents and the cloud?
Is there such an opportunity or not?
          Hope to see soon - it's time...I think πŸ™‚

Sergio1 MegaSYNC is never going to be supported, it is proprietary and non-redistributable. Any repo that ships it would be violating intellectual property and copyright law.

JoshStrobl yeah I understand, but the ones before the update felt like they had way more quality, also I'm loving Solus, it is the perfect Distro for me, I've tried so many others before this one, I really wanted to try Linux and when there was no hope Solus appeared, an actual miracle haha, keep up the amazing work, been using it since 2019.

Thanks guys, I love using budgie but am looking forward to trying out the new plasma on the spare hard drive.

I'm open to hearing what sort of themes you'd like us to go into that we haven't already overdone already (wallpapers of animals and flowers as examples).
