Hi,

I had originally installed Solus Plasma and recently installed Gnome too. Originally i let sddm be the main DM but it never booted into Gnome. So i disabled sddm using systemctl and enabled gdm. However on reboot all i am getting is a blank screen. I tried to re-enable sddm back using superuser mode but even that is not working. Is there any way i can boot into either KDE/Gnome without having to reinstall the OS again?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

kyrios Plasma is not evil. However, it is best to keep desktops separate (imo). It often takes a fair amount of fiddling to get them to mostly co-exist and usually even then, it's not usually perfect.

    dbarron He meant having the two installed at the same time is evil because they aren't integrated to co-exist. Different display managers for starters.

    Oh, wow, I certainly read an alternate interpretation.

    dbarron That's not what I said. 😃
    I even posted the link in which Josh explained why !

    Yeah, surprised me for sure....I didn't actually read the link, just your own comment. I do remember the thread in which it was originally discussed though.
    I believe you can see the other interpretation though. As a hobby, I'm a writer, and frequently deal with these vagueness of the English language. They can be quite funny at time.

      dbarron yeah can be very funny especially with non native English people like me.

      Thanks all for the suggestions. I wiped plasma and installed mate, just to get a feel of gnome and anything else gtk related. Though plasma seemed lighter atleast from memory utilization compared to mate. Have to try for some more time and see how it is. Is there any chance for getting enlightenment, cinnamon and other DE's in solus?

        mubh Is there any chance for getting enlightenment, cinnamon and other DE's in solus?

        No.

        • mubh replied to this.

          At the risk of offense (talking other distros), I might suggest Installing a VM of SparkyLinux, which has most DE flavors (definitely enlightenment) and tooled to pretty much work together, even if you install multiples (though it's not perfect either).
          @kyrios I didn't even know you weren't a native Eng speaker.

          Plasma and GTK are like Starfleet and Borg. Peace is irrelevant. Co-existence is irrelevant. All will be assimilated!

          Sorry, the 'evil' word got me, and just couldn't hold back... lol
