Firefox Sync which is built into firefox supports syncing of:

  • Bookmarks
  • Open Tabs
  • Logins
  • History
  • Addons
  • Preferences

You'll have to create a firefox sync account and install firefox on your mobile (available for ios and android).

In my experience you have to click the sync button manually on your desktop version of firefox (two clicks). Goto your phone and select "Your library" > Synchronised devices > swipe down to refresh. And you'll get all your open tabs.

I'm sure Firefox Sync's automatically but for me I found it too slow to update, so for the best experience I click the sync button on whatever device I'm using to switch between devices.

      I'll use it from today and build up my bookmarks, password data from ground zero but it's worth it leaving Chrome 😁 thanks alot

        alawi3d Also you have the advantage of all the addons firefox has to offer - privacy related or just plain adblocker, its good stuff!

        I have to admit tho that browsing with Chrome is better, the multi tab gestures etc are really nice but no addon support and the privacy stuff makes me use Firefox anyways!

          one_good_eye As far as I know, the Solus build of Firefox has also telemetry off.

              Mostly Firefox (partly for the privacy, partly for the improved font rendering on my Windows machines).

              I like Vivaldi and Opera, but Vivaldi still has some kinks to work out and Opera is missing a feature or two I like (and some worry about the new owners), but I'll use them from time to time. The speed dial is hard to beat and Opera is my favorite for handling bookmarks.

              I'm keeping my eye on Brave. I like the browser overall, but I'm worried about how things will develop with their advertising model. I think it's an interesting idea, but I'm worried on how it will evolve over time. Not a bad browser though, with some other privacy apps installed.

              [deleted] Yup you are correct I did check in a vm with a brand new download of solus and in Firefox settings it does say that for "this build data collection is disabled". But I like the peace of mind that data collection/telemetry isn't there in the first place. Also I do about:config changes to really make sure it is as secure as I can reasonably get. I don't get bothered if your not interested in this kind of thing.

                evert Sure thing. I found that it "just works" like regular Firefox but has the needed amount telemetry to still work as needed. If they offered a bug report feature, like you can choose to manually send it or automatically, I am fine with that as long as there is an option to edit it if I need to, more then likely not going to edit the bug report but it would be nice. Telemetry wise there is something I am probably forgetting that would be a benefit to the app or os developer and still keep the privacy of the individual.

                  Mozilla is not trustworthy. They spy on you secretly. Had enough of mozilla's hypocrisy.
                  Other than Mozilla, Google tells you honestly to collect and use your data (which of course is also a no go for me).
                  Therefore Waterfox was a "no-brainer" decision.

                        kyrios : do a web search "Mozilla is not trustworthy" you'll find answers.
                        Always the same story , a free service is growing much, then they have to decide how to finance this (Devs, servers etc).
                        One way is get a paid service or they the service lives from donation or the sell your data.
                        But don't worry, google chrome is much worse.

                            I will not go to that extent currently and flat out say mozilla is not trustworthy sure there are somethings that might be questionable but that is for everyone to decide for them selves. That is why I choose Waterfox because I don't like some settings in Firefox but that is my choice, I will explain my reasons for my choice for anyone willing to read what I have wrote but I will not force you to use the same software that I use, I will suggest you at least take a look at it but that's it.

                            For an 'untrustworthy' browser (my FF beef is simply aesthetics) it has the most secure addons and extensions of any linux browser I've used. Mostly crash-fee is nice, too.

                            Dial in the right combo and you surf pretty safely--compared to the herd-- if you believe the footprint investigator sites (whoer, panopticon etc).

                            I know nothing of Mozilla's politics or privacy, nor has my reading led me there, so I'm not making a judgement on that based on lack of research. In advanced settings I elected not to share any data with them. If they circumvent that, oh well.

                            The hardening required to become truly anonymous seems too much a chore if all your interests are is solus, football, rock and roll, your old lady, and keeping your car running. And football.

                              I would go back to Firefox if the Waterfox project folded. I have not been a fan of data collection but I wouldn't mind using Firefox, partly because if I really want to remove the parts I don't like I could find some way to remove them or block if I want to.

                              I am fine with that. If you find what Firefox has for security as fulfilling for your needs that is great, I don't get picky, I might suggest anyone reading this at least look into Firefox, Waterfox, TOR if you want to go this route, or what you would consider secure. If interested in a Chrome alternative I have used Vivaldi, it has been stable for me, Chromium, stable just like Vivaldi in my experience.
