Does there exist such a creature (outside of firefox) that is FOSS-based and can keep you secure i.e., accommodate add-ons, advanced settings, etc?

Epihany, vivaldi, etc make me feel very vulnerable, as does falkon. You can configure Very Little in these browsers and security add-ons are non-existent last time I played.

AlucardNoir Like I said, Chrome is based on Chromium. The fact that Chromium is 95% (guess) made by Google employees means yes they will get what they want.

CraigMatze Is that AdBlock as in AdBlock or just generally adblocking? cause AdBlock has been frowned upon for quite some time. And with good reason.

CraigMatze You might want to look into either uBlock Origins (note the Origins, it's important), Privacy badger, AdGuard or, if you're so inclined uBlock Matrix. AdBlock and AdBlock Plus haven't had the cleanest of records, nor the best performance when it comes to their tasks. And then there's the whole Acceptable Ads debacle that started a few years ago. If you're OK with allowing certain ads I'd rather suggest you moved to either FF with Privacy Badger or Brave since Brave doesn't stop first party ads and has both HTTPS everywhere and Privacy badger inbuilt. Otherwise, just move from AdBlock to either AdGuard, uBlock Origin, or, again if you're willing to tolerate some ads Privacy badger.

I get it, AdBlock Plus and AdBlock are the oldest extensions of their kind, but it's been a very long time since they were the best. And now? now they're in bed with advertisers. And this coming from someone that uses Brave whilst fully aware Brave wants to reach the same spot AdBlock and AdBlock Plus are currently in.

FireFox has not been letting the Alerts from StreamLabs through in spite of turning/tweaking everything. So, i had to install Opera and it works fine, I did note however, that Opera uses the FFMPEG-Chromium version instead of the newer secure one.

Firefox and Opera. Firefox als common browser, Opera where all Social Media are centralised.

i forgot to mention i use waterfox for twitter only, this cos it works with some essential firefox addons, and the reason i dont use a separate firefox profile for twitter is that i havent figured out how to make devilspie2 distinguish between my regular firefox profiles and a firefox twitter profile - i like twitter to be a narrow window on the right and regular firefox to take up much more of the screen (devilspie2 can be used to make windows/apps appear in a fixed position and size)

Using waterfox in an appimage currently because it isn't in the repo, not asking for it to be added but it would be nice.

        Waterfox home page: https://www.waterfox.net/

        Waterfox appimage: https://appimage.github.io/Waterfox/

Reason for using Waterfox over Firefox is Waterfox takes out the telemetry mozilla has, never have been a fan of data collection/telemetry (looking at you Microsoft and Google). Also Waterfox is using the esr release of Firefox which means not a whole lot can go wrong, it gets the security updates but not the feature updates, esr 68 is on the horizon. Waterfox is already working on their esr 68 variant. https://www.waterfox.net/blog/waterfox-56.2.9-release-download/

EDIT: addons are https Everywhere, Decentraleyes, uBlock Origin, uMatrix (this thing will block about anything) and all of this came form the firefox addons store which is nice to have.

I use Chrome just for history sync I can't stress enough how much I use it between my devices if there is any browser that have the same feature along side password sync between PC and Android device i'd be happy to jump to it and leave Chrome behind.

Firefox Sync which is built into firefox supports syncing of:

            • Bookmarks
            • Open Tabs
            • Logins
            • History
            • Addons
            • Preferences

You'll have to create a firefox sync account and install firefox on your mobile (available for ios and android).

In my experience you have to click the sync button manually on your desktop version of firefox (two clicks). Goto your phone and select "Your library" > Synchronised devices > swipe down to refresh. And you'll get all your open tabs.

I'm sure Firefox Sync's automatically but for me I found it too slow to update, so for the best experience I click the sync button on whatever device I'm using to switch between devices.

Harvey ok Nice!! I've been out of loop about Firefox since the last time I used it 😅
I'll use it from today and build up my bookmarks, password data from ground zero but it's worth it leaving Chrome 😁 thanks alot

alawi3d Also you have the advantage of all the addons firefox has to offer - privacy related or just plain adblocker, its good stuff!

I have to admit tho that browsing with Chrome is better, the multi tab gestures etc are really nice but no addon support and the privacy stuff makes me use Firefox anyways!

one_good_eye As far as I know, the Solus build of Firefox has also telemetry off.
