You can update Manjaro (or vanilla Arch, or anything Arch based); you simply can't update it whenever you want, even if there's more or less daily package updates. You have to keep an eye on the official forums, read the release notes, know your system well and update when you are confident that nothing will break.
A very big part of the effort from the Solus team is exactly this: testing updates before releasing them to the users, so that there will be a very, very low (but non zero: as Harvey said, that's impossible) probability of unrecoverable fuck ups.
