Looks like anyone who wants to test it Fedora Rawhide has it now. In VM I had to switch off openGL for display as I got issues like cursor upsidedown etc.

Mentioning here that the rest of the BoB team (including myself) are very supportive of this decision by Evan. As you all know, I always did the same when I used to maintain the GNOME stack, and agree with doing it even for our case.

Let others be the guinea pig 😉

brent Fedora 44's Budgie Spin and Budgie Atomic Spin will ship Budgie 10.10. The packages are in rawhide, validated with the 20260111 rawhide ISO.

What Fedora release Budgie 11 will ship with? Too early to say, but would be nice to see it in 47 or 48.

Qt6 means most likely sticking with C++ (and that's what the Budgie Display Configurator is written in, looking at the forge). With other high profile projects like KDE and Hyprland also being written in C++, the movers and shakers of the modern FOSS DE landscape seem to be somewhat indifferent to the folk wisdom (at least judging by some online communities) of C++ being "legacy" tech.

Just an observation. I'm not into language advocacy. 😅

paracetamol C++ is still one of the very top languages used, especially in the business world. Generally top 5 in most indexes. It is generally the "engine" working at the low-level side of things. Languages like Rust are certainly gaining steam in that arena, but C++ is still right up there. I am not really biased towards a language. I have used just about all the major low-level languages at some point. They are all tools to me. I would say just about all of our clients (my company) have C++ in heavy use by their dev teams and not just legacy code.

I'm really looking forward to version 11 and whether Budgie can then become a replacement for Gnome for me.
