Congratulations to the Budgie team!

I always thought you would switch to Wayland in good time, and you did. Not too early, and not too late. I wasn't, for instance, looking forward to being a character in some of the horror stories I saw about Gnome/Wayland, KDE/Wayland, and just Wayland in general over the last ₁₀ years. 😛 I will keep in mind that the people writing those stories weren't Solus devs, or Budgie devs. Also, if Josh is relaxed enough to post memes on Solus forums, it's status normal, which around here means good times.

brent Fedora 44's Budgie Spin and Budgie Atomic Spin will ship Budgie 10.10. The packages are in rawhide, validated with the 20260111 rawhide ISO.

What Fedora release Budgie 11 will ship with? Too early to say, but would be nice to see it in 47 or 48.

Original-Syn C++ is still one of the very top languages used, especially in the business world. Generally top 5 in most indexes. It is generally the "engine" working at the low-level side of things. Languages like Rust are certainly gaining steam in that arena, but C++ is still right up there. I am not really biased towards a language. I have used just about all the major low-level languages at some point. They are all tools to me. I would say just about all of our clients (my company) have C++ in heavy use by their dev teams and not just legacy code.

interesting observations. depending on who/what one reads, many proclaim it a relic but it seems the backbone of a lot. It's a low-level tool, I know, but has staying power. I think Rust will as well.

I'm tempted to try Budgie 10.10 with Niri as the Wayland compositor, once it's available. Might spin up a Fedora Rawhide VM to see if that's feasible.

I tried that, sans VM, but could not get the Fedora iso to launch from the Ventoy stick. I really want to see what the 10.10 Immutable Wayland Budgie experience is all about before it happens here. I share your anticipation. Follow up if you go this direction.

brent I've installed Fedora Rawhide with Budgie onto a separate partition, and it seems a bit rough around the edges to me at this time. Also, switching labwc to Niri may be a bit beyond my skill levels at this stage, so for now I may have to abandon the idea.

I used Solus OS Budgie years ago. I recently reinstalled the distribution. I hesitated to install Budgie, but I chose XFCE (Picom) while waiting for version 11. In any case, it was a good thing to have Solus XFCE available.
