Duplicate Flatpak Icons in Plank-Anyone else have this?

the folder we have a picture of no long exists according to terminal...

/var/lib/flatpak/app/io.gitlab.librewolf-community/current/active/export/share/applications/LibreWolf DOES EXIST:

maybe I haven't slept enough? maybe I crossed over the the Bearenstein world?

brent Yup thats file you want copy to new location you dont have use (Sudo) to just copy

Dolphin is not stupid so it doesn't do this.

save as to .../applications worked.
editing file in /applications worked
(librewolf to LibreWolf then save) worked.
logging out then loggind back in did not work. still two icons.
at least it was you too. back to the drawing board.

LibreWolf icon is gone but a new icon took its place at the very right end. kind of generic.

still duplicates. the old librewolf double would not let me CLOSE or KEEP IN DOCK so get rid of the real Libre Wolf in dock and make the fake the launcher?

brent remove the icons from plank all librewolf then open filemanager to the new file you edit
and drag onto plank see if that works dont need login again

what that did was preserve the generic icon (6th one in) but no duplicate. The highlighted file dragged just fine as you can see.
I left the file open for this pic.
I wondered way above that maybe I just have to show it where the real Icon= is? Maybe not? maybe Icon=io.gitlab.librewolf-community is the file and not the icon? 😛 running out of brain🙂

brent wait a minute. the name of the Icon= ends with NO extension. The file I dropped into Plank has a .desktop at the end of the name.

Just got remb to drag that file to plank because I am not sure the Startmenu one is correct didnt look at it before
I deleted Librewolf
Tried to use (xprop WM_CLASS) earlier to find proper WM_Class name but had no luck.
So then I deleted that line and it worked.
But once I edited it you can just double click file in file manager and see if it works if it does drag it to plank
and should work.

No need mess with the icon because its not what is opening the second instance.

just stay focused either the file harvey said or the other one delete that line then try run it from file manager

To put it short i think because we dont have the proper wm_class name it is opening the second instance
and by deleting that line your telling it not to.
Thats how I understand after short reading on it and testing (I could be wrong)

brent Question: before you followed my instructions, did you already had LibreWolf pinned to plank as favourite? I try to wrap my head around why it woldn't work for you, and the only thing I can think of is that I should have mentioned that in order for it to work, you need to unpin it as favourite, because this favourite probably still refers to the old desktop file, not the edited one.
So, after you have moved the desktop file to ~/.local/share/applications and edited it, unpin LibreWolf from plank and close LibreWolf, also close plank and restart it, then reopen LibreWolf and pin it to plank.
You might need to logout login after you edited the desktop file to update desktop file cache database.

By doing what you suggested but deleting that whole line it works for me properly
and it doesnt mess with my start menu either it works properly to.

Posted a visual so see that it works.
Brent just use the orignal locations and files he suggested and it should work.

WM_CLASS(STRING) = "Navigator", "LibreWolf"

Not sure why it doesnt work with that name just tried it again(With just LibreWolf) and it wont unless I delete whole line.

did not unpin--it was a favorite.makes sense then. will try this later.

When you use xprop WM_CLASS start the program then click on it with the cross on its window
Its for the name of the window not the icons.

I just did firefox
~ $ xprop WM_CLASS
WM_CLASS(STRING) = "Navigator", "firefox"

I was trying in another thread on conveying communication in the threads makes all the difference
in problem solving but I think they took it the wrong way...Oh well learned stuff myself you always do that when I help you.

1/2 of problem SOLVED. I uninstalled LW, reinstalled, un-favorited, saved/var file back into/.local directory (overwrote existing), made the WM class upper case L and W just like Name= had it and saved.
That was it. Didn't need to do anything. I did not delete anything.

On to Ungoogled 🙂

you can't tell because the crop, but LibreWolf and Ungoogled-Chromium are both open.
Duplicates gone.

For ungoogled it was the same: flatpak remove, install, var to .local, save as and DEL WMCLass line only.
then Shazam.

Forced Plank closed and rebooted just to see if it held. It held.

I am made whole again!!! Thank you!!!!

***still, question remains how the files in /var/lib/flatpak/app/io.gitlab.librewolf-community/current/active/export/share/applications/LibreWolf and ~/.local/share/applications became so mangled? Before last night, I had never tampered with files in those directories...

MODS plase mark SOLVED, thank you kindly. These guys showed me the way there and the only barely-original idea I had was just reinstalling the files in question to close it out clean and do what they told me to do. This was a team effort with two smart people and me.
