Dear Sirs,
Currently using Solus Plasma DE. 'Harmony', works great, looks better. BUT...When i stream to Twitch, OBS connects and streams with no issues, however none of the Browsers will connect & throw error 'Browser Type Not Supported' with any of the latest browser Stable versions, Chrome, Brave, Falkon, Vivaldi. No firewall is used. Strangely enough, Rebooting into windows 10, the same browser connects fine, as does OBS. Even stranger is that i can take my computer to a friends house who has a different ISP, and it will connect the Browser to Twitch and work fine. Reaching out to Twitch Support, nothing helpful has been responded on this issue.

Additionally, When i am using Windows 10 to be on Twitch for several hours, when i next reboot, Solus will not show anything past the enter-PW in large letters, and instead of showing the smaller type and the login, it stays Blank, and i have to re-Flash the Bios to get it to work, I have had the Modem swapped out 7 times by my ISP. ANY help will be gratefully received !!! Thank you guys for the long hours of your lives you Invest into this awesome OS. 🙂

catfishsushi I would say a modem config issue or the isp is blocking (dns maybe.)
    Has it ever worked?
Not sure if I totally understand your last paragraph

      7 days later

Axios I've been doing research to figure out what is happening. The DNS information coming to my Modem, is not accurate. For example: When i use Discord on Solus, it auto-sets my Locale/Region as Brazil, Since i live in usa Tenneesse, that's wrong, and the timestamps show me as in Reykjavík, Iceland. Manual setting of Region causes a reconnect. Browser locations for Stores near me show me as on the other side of my State over 145 Miles away. My ISP refuses to acknowldge any of the issues about DNS. Using IFTOP to see what is 'talking' to my modem/computer, i count 15 (on average) Amazon ec2 connections. I'm no genius, but I think that's a bit overkill for collecting browser cookies and shopping prefferences.
Since i am not a tech networking expert, I have asked others for diagnostic help. It has been 'suggested' there is a man in the middle going on that has a very specific filtering included in it, which blocks connection attempts from anything with netbios information that is Linux related to desktop browser. It has to be very specific, as it allows OBS to connect & run just fine. Also, i occasionally see some kind of service called AWSGlobalAccerator, which i do not pay for, and over the past few months the techs at my ISP say thier company does not use.
Since on Twitch I perform Mod duties in various channels, the streamers have asked me to keep the 'chat scraper' Bots banned and out of thier channel, which i do. Over the past few weeks after spending hours on Twitch using Windows, when i next try to login to Solus, the screen shows the infomation in large letters, blips (and supposed to be ) small letters and i type PW & login....But...often that will not show up on my screen, all i get to see are the large letters, it blips, and....nothing.....Reboot...and...same thing. I then have to ReFlash my Bios to get that to work properly. Then i have to reset my Bios to my preferences.
Just to make sure its not something within Solus that is not correct, i asked a fellow streamer who has been on there over 14 Years for help. He loaded a VM of Solus, ran updates and logged into twitch just fine. This boosts my confidence in The Solus Team as knowing what they're doing.
I have tried flushing the DNS cache, but it throws an Error, which i will document for next Time.

Hope this clears up that last paragraph. 🙂

ANY direct help will be greatly appricated! 'catfishsushi'

catfishsushi I would say aws after reading on it alittle is the issue from what you described
        and what I read.
The question is why is it their as you said earlier it works fine at friends house.
I would think if it was some kinda of man in middle stuff you would have that prob on any isp you connected to
(I dont think it would discriminate what isp you was connected to)

Take a look at your services ect and see if you might come across something running relating to that
Going go out on Limb and say Isp again (I found over the years alot of them never tell you whole story)

Its just from what you described its related to aws but when, why ,where I dont know.
If you had another computer you could setup and try it on your isp the same way would tell alot.
Seems to be no easy answer to these things.
(Note I dont know if anybody at amazon webservices could be of help or if you could even contact them
but if you could I ams ure they could shed some light on it Long shot)

It might be helpful if you could post an image here of your Solus boot screen status when you hit the error you are describing during boot?

ermo Thank you for your interest kind soul. Upon Boot-up, the information and PW enter screen has large letters, it blips, then its supposed to show that same screen with smaller letters, but the screen is Blank black page. I tried to enter the PW thinking it to be a bug/glitch that was negligible, but it didn't work. Twice I tried that, twice it failed, so I had to re-flash my Bios and put the settings back, i.e. : turn on TPM, set for secure boot, etc.

Apologies for possibly being a bit slow, but could you perhaps help me understand which part of your quoted reply is an image (🖼️) ? 🤔

You know, one of those digital things you take with a digital camera (📸) and then upload?

            Like this:

Is there a screenshot function at bootup i didn't know about??????

            • ermo replied to this.

              catfishsushi

I was honestly expecting you to take a picture with either the digital camera in your phone or a normal digital camera and uploading that?

Is this not something you can do -- either because you don't have a smartphone w/camera or a digital camera perhaps...?

I use an antiquated Flip-phone by design, as it cannot support any Apps, its fundamentally secure, but admittedly not flawless. It wouldn't show much, just the logo for Mobo, the choose which OS to boot into, then select Solus, it blips, shows the large lettering drive designation with a blinking cursor to enter PW, then it blips again, the lettering is small but the same, with a blinking cursor to enter PW.

              • ermo replied to this.

                catfishsushi

                What, exactly, does the

large lettering drive designation with a blinking cursor to enter PW

say? Spell it out for us please?

The reason I'm asking you to spell it out is that I am unfortunately neither a mind-reader nor able to take over control of your visual cortex and view your screen through your eyes.

Does the prompt you see appear to be "text mode" -- perhaps similar to this?

Or -- given your focus on security -- did you perhaps neglect to mention that you are using a LUKS-encrypted partition that you need to unlock at each boot?

                Hi,

After reading over all the responses in the thread, it seems like there are two different, unrelated issues. Trying to talk about them both at once will lead to confusion. Let's try to sort them out one by one. This is what I see the issues as so far, let me know if I've missed something.

1 - When streaming to Twitch with Solus, OBS is OK but the browsers won't load pages. They get an error 'Browser Type Not Supported'. Related symptoms:

                • This all works fine in Windows 10.
                • This works fine on Solus at another person's house.
                • At home, with Discord on Solus, Locale/Region as Brazil incorrectly. The timestamps show as in Reykjavík, Iceland, incorrectly.

                Also related:

                • The unknown Amazon ec2 connections, and AWSGlobalAccerator, which are being used by Twitch. Twitch is owned by Amazon.
AWSGlobalAccerator is used by clients of Amazon's EC2 service to do load balancing. When you have a lot of traffic because of a large Twitch stream, this helps make sure the network isn't overloaded and all the Twitch clients can stream smoothly. These are normal and not a problem. (This is also unrelated to your ISP).

                • I agree with Axios that there is likely no man in the middle attack installed on your computer. It would behave the same regardless of where you connected. Your connection being different at a different location is normal. It's complex, but Twitch, the ISP and all the routers in between have rules for routing your traffic depending on various rules they all have.

With all that said, the problems with Twitch incorrectly identifying your locaiton and time zone are very likely due to Twitch's own networking rules. This is something they have to help you resolve. All the Solus install (and Windows install) can do is make sure your time zone and location are set correctly (I'm assuming they are). Contact Twitch about this.

2 - The issue with text at bootup being smaller past a password prompt and not being able to get past this without re-flashing the BIOS. This seems completely separate from the other issues. Symptoms related to this:

                • It's the BIOS / UEFI screen or an encryption password prompt, before Solus loads. (This is based on you saying its at bootup, before screenshots are available).
                • After using Windows for some time, and rebooting, the BIOS screen gets to this password prompt.

To help with #2 we really do need a screenshot or a more detailed description of the screen, as ermo asked. Without knowing what password its asking for, we don't know what the problem is or how to help.

Footnote: Not all of us in the Forums or the Solus Team are "sirs". I know you were trying to be polite. A better phrase to use, that is more inclusive, would be "Hi folks" (which is non-gendered). Thanks.

TraceyC Thanks for the informative post now I know the where and why for aws.
Never was one to not say I learned something and today I did.

Attempting to upload small video file to show but fails. Size 47.5 Mb What is the approved file types and sizes for short upload??

                    catfishsushi
I don't know what our setting is for the maximum upload size, but I'd recommend the file be under 20 MB. (That's the Flarum default, from what I was able to find)

catfishsushi I recently had a LUKS setup. Despite being a newbie, I recognize this screen in this context.

ermo (and probably others later) mentioned LUKS. TraceyC also related to that.

To me, you seem to have a LUKS setup and need to type in there (and NOT here!) your disk passphrase (password) which you set when you set it as LUKS disk (or alternatively partition) or when you chose a Solus LUKS install (full disk encryption here, I think).

This is a newbie answer, and not always in the correct terms, but I did see this exact screen and simply typed in my LUKS passphrase (password) and then boot continued until the normal graphical login prompt.

I hope it works that way for you and I assuming the above is right, I hope you know your LUKS passphrase.

Hi Folks, correct that's a Linux Unified Kernel System, that is, an Encrypted drive setup. I have the passwords well memorized. Its just...after several hours on Twitch using windows 10, when next i reboot, the smaller text to enter passphrase does not appear, and typing blindly as though it there but not showing, doesn't work. THAT is when i have to reflash the Bios and reset the settings, then reboot, then i see the smaller type and can enter passphrase.
