Is it possible to do a repair install with the new ISO ?
I was already on 4.4 but the last update went wrong and the grub is gone.
Solus 4.4 "Harmony" released
Woohoo, party time

First kernel zen patches, now XFCE. This timeline is very weird
Congratulations on getting 4.4 out.
tomscharbach No need to reinstall.
I just ordered another (newer) Optiplex that will be here on Sunday. I'm going to use it to replace the Windows machine that's currently doing our streaming (and struggling with that). It will have plenty of penguin power (after I install Solus Plasma) to handle the streaming mission and also serve Solus torrents. Those are the only two tasks here that need to run 24/7, so we can hibernate all the other computers when we're not actively using them.
This will be the first computer here to have 4.4 installed as a clean boot. I'm looking forward to that, even though I know that most are technically on 4.4 already. Are you planning on using a secure boot? I'm undecided as yet, since this computer is only physically available to me. Should I be using it anyway? Is there any advantage that I'm not yet aware of?
tomscharbach I reinstalled 4.3 after Josh & Crew took back over late march/april. Been more attentive to cruft and I think will get by with no 4.4 iso install; I haven't tore into this thing like I usually do.
That said: great PSA/reminder. I will keep updating by choice.
Someone else said it best on ths thread: moved mountains on a short timeline. Out of distrowatch gulag and back on the radar.
As we usually mention these sort of changes between ISO releases, Solus sets vm.max_map_count=2147483642
and have done so since May 2023 (Existing installs need not do anything its already done). Why you might care about that: https://www.phoronix.com/news/Fedora-39-VM-Max-Map-Count

My luck at this software turmoil FF now mate will have to ponder this for awhile.
Prob wont go back to budgie just bad first experience (Yes I know its changed alot)
my first gnome experience was not much better.
Dont know anything about xfce and Have limited use with plasma so it would prob be plasma
I guess.
Just Ramblin
But congradulations on the hardwork everybody did in short time to get this far.
Axios I had (nautilus meltdowns) budgie trust issues for 6 months, I understand you. I used XFCE in a few live iso distros and installed it to hard drive once (MX Linux a couple months): xfce is a nifty DE. you might like it. modest and not flashy like Mate. But modern, unlike Mate.
It was solid but my problem was always the OS's XFCE was on top of like deb flavors with 4 package managers, 3 settings managers, multiple everythings (it seemed like) and overkill like that so it was hard to know how to use it. It's strange it's at Solus. I always thought 'this would be an ok DE if all the crap it was on top of was ripped out of it.' I really cannot think of a better place for xfce to be at right now when I think about. 2 cents

brent I really dont need plasma to much stuff and gnome to simplistic
really budgie and mate fit in the middle for my use (Prob check budgie out again)
Whatever they do with mates replacement I would suggest something thats going to be around and active
if any concerns in that department I would not use it. (slow developement to)
Not going worry about this lenovo another 12months battery will need replaced and its not worth replacing
was handy having it.

Axios ok gotcha. migrating DE always pita. like goldielocks has to be just right. I am this way too. left W7 for budgie. then had to leave budgie. found cinnamon fedora amazing. then back to solus budgie. my computer life is like a soap opera when I re-read this....
edit all this is negligible since I'm not on W anymore. that is beyond soap and into dystopia
Great news! Thank you
Worth noting that Solus Plasma is the only plasma I like, it's greatly simplified, but you can extend functionality. Most other Plasma implementations come off clunky and unrefined out of the box imo. I say this as a windows "admin". I have no doubt the teams' implementation of xfce will also be great.
Gnome version won't install on my 2 YO HP Laptop yet the Plasma version will..
Cloak If you'd like to figure out the issue, I'd ask that you create a new discussion with details such as at what step the installation failed, any error message, and any other information that might help. That makes it easier for everyone to keep track of the issue. Thanks!
One step beyond!..
But stilll the infarious annoyance in the installer which still decides by itself where it will install the EFI/loader directories.
Just a 'mv' + efibootmgr, but still..
Anyway, long live Solus and a big THANK YOU to the staff who made the world's air more breathable!
EbonJaeger Correction - none of the ISO's will install in this particular Laptop. In fact neither will Fedora or Ubuntu... However I can get an Arch based system on it no problems. Leave it with me till I can document just what HP model it is and see if I can identify the H/W...
synth-ruiner XFCE edition
Thunar for my sway session, yaay

Thank you so much !!!
Finally dream comes true
Next step : Making people using & loving again Solus !
DistroWatch is a good way to promote Solus...
Somebody should contact them now to pass Solus from Dormant to Active Mode status for having Solus ranking again...
I remind myself when Solus was simply ramked Nunber 1 which is a good and a logical place fior Solus
SOLUS_INVICTUS Somebody should contact them now to pass Solus in Active Mode status for having Solus ranking again
Not according to them you're not.
We often receive e-mails from projects which have been Dormant and plan future releases (or from fans of dormant projects) asking us to update the distro's status to Active. This will be done automatically when a new stable release is published.
