I am positively impressed. I like Gnome, but it is not perfect. Budgie is what I like more. Rarely seen a distro working so fast on my PC. Congratulations.

Staudey It's trending like crazy

Traffic on my torrent server has picked up, too. What I can't understand ... the most popular download seems to be for MATE. At, like, 6 times as much as the second place DE (which is GNOME). Actually, GNOME, Budgie and Plasma are almost equal. But MATE? That's the part I can't understand.

WetGeek Probably just a random coincidence. In my case the popularity of ISOs by upload ratios goes:

    1. Budgie (Ratio 3.13)
    2. Plasma (Ratio 2.06)
    3. GNOME (Ratio 1.87)
    4. MATE (Ratio 0.81) [yep, I haven't even uploaded one full copy of this one 😀]

(also today the Budgie 4.3️⃣ ISO seems to be quite popular for some reason 😆)

Staudey Probably just a random coincidence

Yours is much more as I'd expect. It could just be that there are fewer peers serving MATE torrents, I guess. Anyway, it's great to see Solus getting some love.

Axios Part of a review from distro watch

I wrote that review this morning. And I still don't know of any cons. Sure, there're the problems I've recently discovered with virtual machines, but I can't blame Solus for those when they might well be VirtualBox's fault.

Staudey Is there any way to tell how many active Solus users there are and whats the percentage per DE?

WetGeek that was a ruckus! gave it a like at DW! edit/sp

Sebastian Solus doesn't keep track of any information or metrics to really tell how many people use it. The closest that I know of is guessing the ratio of DE usage via watching the torrent seeding ratios, but even that can vary quite a bit from person to person.

I wonder how many noticed this in DistroWatch's "Torrent Corner" this week?

They may have ignored us for a while, but they're sure making up for it now.

Hello! I just hopped over to Solus from another distro, and so far I love the experience. I wanted a KDE Plasma environment, reasonably up to date packages without breaking everything, no data collection, a community based distro without major corporate involvement, and no Snap pre-installed. I had hopped around on dozens of distros, never quite finding what I needed, until someone recommended Solus.

At first I had been worried because the last point release was several years ago, but then I read the updates and I really can get behind the mission statement, and the vision for the future of this distro, and I want to join you in wherever we end up heading.

I hope you don't mind having me along for the voyage!

coloratura I hope you don't mind having me along for the voyage!

Welcome to Solus! Years ago, like you, I ended my distro-hopping adventure when I found Solus. Although I enjoy investigating Other Interesting Distros (mainly in VMs), I'm not the least bit tempted to abandon Solus. And welcome to the forum.

Pssst: KDE Plasma's my favorite DE as well. And Solus does an exceptional job with it.

WetGeek But MATE? That's the part I can't understand.

@Staudey, my numbers aren't as large as yours, because I didn't get my torrent server going until after I'd bought the computer and set it up, but I still find these figures curious. I wanted to show you what I'm seeing here.

Plasma finally overtook MATE in the seeding, but MATE is still being seeded far more than either Budgie or GNOME. That's why I mentioned this when I did. I would have expected results much more like yours.

Welcome! I am using Solus for a long time, you can say it was my 1st distro! Budgie edition tho 🙂
