There is one last thing I'd like to add, and I won't go into detail, just because I am not that
knowledgable. But keep in mind that Solus might rebase on Serpent/AerynOS, at least use their packaging tooling etc.
Aeryn folks are also working on interesting innovations in terms of rethinking how a distribution and updates etc should work.
Meanwhile, work on eopkg hasn't stopped.
Support for systemd-inhibit support was added recently for example. So shutting down while updating shouldn't be possible any more, at least that is my understanding. Also ctrl+c won't kill the update process anymore I believe.
As of pulling the plug, well, don't do it 😉

Yes, SolusOS "It just works" and it's very good. And so does Bluefin, Bazzite and Aurora, but with a full kitchen sink that is missing on SolusO

Not all of us have a lot of extra hardware to do an install of another os on. If it can't be run in a VM I'm not interested. I also read on their blogs that they can't be used with Ventoy. What kind of nonsense is that? And I will comment when I feel like I have something to add.

I've vented many times about all sorts of stuff so not judging you in the least...your post's Irony is Solus has announced it's intention, more than a couple times, to eventually end up where you want it to be.

I personally don't believe in your version of ideal or Solus's version (if they are both still the same) of what the future should look like, and have to cross that bridge when it comes. If Solus goes that way I will likely follow it.

Also--I did break SilverBlue after one week. I'm good that way. Zzz. Felt like Fedora with handcuffs on and Linux not supposed to feel that way.

brent that's your opinion. The truth is, everyone will slowly move to atomic/immutable OS's in the (near) future. And there's no way back, weather you like it or not. The trend is very clear. Open your eyes and look at all the development going on with Bazzite, Fedora silverblue, Bluefin, VanillaOS, ShaniOS, NixOS, EndlessOS, Arkane, Aeon, Aurora, and the list goes on and on. Better get used to it.

I've noticed this too for some time.
His last post was on March 15th of this year.
He's someone who is appreciated for the quality of his discussions on this forum.
I hope he hasn't suffered any serious health problems.
Let's hope that's not the case and keep our fingers crossed... 😐

To get this back on track and in honor of our friend @WetGeek that we hope is somewhere safe and sound, I thought I would go into a distro, that is more of a cousin, being GhostBSD. I used BSD before Linux, when I was a teen. I play with it off and on. GhostBSD is interesting because it is so easy to install for even a novice user. The live graphical installer is about as simple as they get with the common language, region, disk, user account, etc. walkthrough in actually a very pleasant-looking installer. While the default desktop is XFCE you can install others like KDE, MATE, etc. along with their upcoming Gershwin which is MacOS like (not my thing), Many apps that we are used to are available there, and it is very stable. While I prefer Linux, BSD is interesting and more than what people think it is.

Did a quick install; everything is just default...
