Solarmass Should be built-in into Nemo imo.
compared to Nautilus, this is small potatoes and would not have driven me to Solus Mate! I'm getting an education on how Nemo works and its little quirks. I liked it in Ubuntu Budgie before I got rid of it. Thank you Solarmass for highlighting the difference in file managers.
I very much appreciate this how-to. I'm not sure what brand of meth the Gnome dev team prefers but they've been regularly breaking UI since they started working on Gnome 3 and it hasn't gotten much better since then.
Thanks for helping me get my Solus environment working again - the lack of drag-and-drop support and weird copy/paste issues was really starting to grate on my nerves.
I tried this but now I cant login anymore. Then I tried to install budgie via terminal again but there is the issue "failed to fetch file". Anyone any idea without reinstall the hole system?
algent nemo became automatically default package manager.
I believe you might have misspelled "file manager."
I think I might have done something wrong along the way, or perhaps missed a step. I have nemo as "Files," and Budgie Desktop Settings isn't itself anymore, but when I tried placing desktop icons anywhere on the right, they immediately sprang back to their customary Budgie position as soon as the mouse let go.
WetGeek With the mouse right click anywhere on the empty desktop and on the popup menu select customize (or something similar... i use different language than English, so I don't how the menu entry is translated). A customization dialog window will open, and on it disable automatic placing of the icons.
WetGeek Raster setting is customized with the horizontal (found on the bottom of the dialog) and the vertical (found on right side of the dialog) slide controls.
To customize the font setting I did it in the dconf editor (or in a terminal with gsettings) under the key org.nemo.desktop.font
.
Wini-Buh Raster setting is customized with the horizontal (found on the bottom of the dialog) and the vertical (found on right side of the dialog) slide controls.
You mean, the horizontal and vertical grid spacing? I changed both of those to their mid-point settings, and could perceive no change anywhere. Perhaps I'm still doing something wrong? Maybe a reboot needed?
EDIT: Ahhh, I found out what "grid spacing" means. It has to do with how closely the desktop icons are spaced from each other. Nothing to do with screen resolution. I'm learning a lot. Thanks for your help.
It didn't work. I did the switch as described but it wouldn't let me log in to Budgie after rebooting. Logging in with ctrl+f5 and removing nemo from ttk eopkg fixes it.
I do not think this switch was thought through very well or the most ideal solution to begin with I'm sorry but this is a disaster.
Ahem So, back to Nemo....
shipoopy It would be helpful to see journal logs to see what went wrong in this case.
FYI: I deleted a number of posts that were entirely unrelated to the topic. Please try to keep the discussion limited to things that relate to Nemo / desktop icons / the switch from budgie-desktop-view. (also don't respond to this message)
