Sparky 6.5 Linux - Observations (Addendum)
Typically when I review an "other interesting distro" that turns out to be very positive, I try to configure its VM to match its host, my main laptop. Then I test-drive it for a day or two to see how well it would work for me if I were ever forced to replace Solus in my life.
This time, due to a fortunate coincidence, I bought a like-new refurbished DELL Latitude that's the exact match for my main laptop, and having no other pressing need for it at this time, I installed Sparky 6.5 on it and configured it to be a nearly exact duplicate of my daily-driver. The only details I can think of that are different are my email address books and inbox rules, and the repositories where their packages and updates come from. Eopkg in one case, and apt in the other. I even installed VirtualBox on it, and created a Solus Plasma VM.
I can honestly report that the result of this comparison -- on hardware vs. hardware -- is that Sparky Plasma, which I hadn't even heard of until just recently, would make an almost perfect substitute for Solus Plasma in my daily routine. Anyone looking for a "#2" or "backup" distro, as @brent did recenty, could do a lot worse than to consider Sparky as a serious contender.
I'll probably do more of these "installed on bare metal" tests of other distros in the future, but I suspect that when I do, the hardware tests will simply corroberate the results from my VM tests.
