@brent, how's your Beryllium working out on hardware? I've been struggling trying to get some things working that were not an issue for me with a VM.
For one, I want to be able to use channel 3 on my Bluetooth mouse for this laptop, but although it has a good Intel Bluetooth/wi-fi radio, there's no way that I've found that I can connect that mouse to the laptop. And there was no way to turn off the thumbpad, which is maddening when I try to type.
So, I installed the MATE desktop, and was able to turn off the thumbpad, but still no Bluetooth. I removed MATE and installed Plasma. In the Plasma system settings is a Bluetooth menu entry, but if I click on that I just get a blank dialog. And when I try to remove that desktop, my laptop is still filled with KDE apps and utilities that take over my Super hotkeys. I don't want Konqueror for a browser, but I haven't figured out how to get rid of those KDE apps and utilities, though I did remove the desktop.
In my experience, installing a DE on top of Beryllium mostly just adds utilities and apps I don't need. I thought of installing Solus Plasma on it, which would be far more useful and configurable, but I don't need a twin of my main laptop. (Which is exactlly what this laptop is -- same model DELL Latitude.)
Beryllium made a great VM, but on a laptop, it's a bit less enchanting for me. I'm going to let the new laptop just gather dust for a whille, and investigate other interesting dstros using VMs. Sooner or later, one will strike me as the perfect OS to try out on a laptop, and I'll have just the laptop for it.
