EdUBudgie
Working my way past first impressions, I'm less and less enthusiastic about EdUBudgie. I'm here now, and have been for a while, finishing the last steps towards getting this distro ready to use for an extended time as a daily-driver, and the more I see, the more that doesn't seem to be well implemented.
For example, the Display settings offer fractional scaling, but when I set it to 125% (for my HD screen on a stand at arms-length from my eyes) and then press the Apply button ...
... the screen becomes black and unresponsive for about 30 seconds, then returns to the settings page, where that setting has been returned to 100%. The only way I could make things readable was to enter the Budgie Desktop Settings and change the fonts to a text size of 125%. That's not really the same, but it helps in many contexts.
And speaking of Budgie Desktop Settings, those are only partially enabled. For example, there is no choice of overall theme. Just light or dark. And of the other themes, e.g., icons and cursors) there are very limited choices.
And if you like to be able to put icons on your desktop, you'd be out of luck.
All these settings are disabled in the ON position, but no icons appear on the desktop. I mention these things only to give you an idea of how well Budgie is implemented in EdUBudgie. Most of this surprises me, because one might think that a distro that "enhances" Ubuntu Budgie would handle the Budgie part at least as well as the parent distribution does. Of the varous distributions that I've explored that feature the Budgie DE, this one is without question the least well implemented of them all.
I'm going to continue this experiment for a while longer, but I can already see that it's not going to be a whole-day session, as I originally intended it to be. Not like Ultramarine Budgie, for example, or Ubuntu Budgie, where I could spend more than a day using it, while sometimes forgetting that I was in a VM and not on its host. I suspect that adding all the education-related packages as defaults took precedence over getting the base distro implemented well.
