Native Telegram stopped working after last week's updates

UPDATE: As of this morning's (Saturday), the same issue resurfaced. Native telegram refuses to start up. Same error message in terminal as above. I am not going to keep chasing my tail, but instead will use the flatpak version until native telegram is fixed. Lucky we have options. 😄

elfprince I suspect your issues with Telegram are specific to your setup, because I have native Telegram installed here, and it's been running fine in the last few days.

There is still a download option wget -O telegram.tar.xz https://telegram.org/dl/desktop/linux
Unpack tar xf telegram.tar.xz
Use: Double-click Telegram
Alternatively, add through menuelibre to the Start menu

nathanpainchaud could be. i have camera/location/microphone forced off in budgie system settings. but zoom can get around it. other things cannot. some apps have to ask and get exceptions because of my policy and some apps just hit the wall and won't function. elfprince maybe its something like that I wonder? "lucky we have options" I say that all the time, too🙂

brent It just stopped working, got 'fixed' using steps described above, and stopped again the next day (today) on a fresh boot with the same symptoms. I use it all the time, so for me it is more important to find another working good source, than bang my head against the wall trying to fix the native one.
My 2 cents: ALWAYS have a backup plan, because you never know.. 😀

elfprince oh yes. when flatpak zoom died (a necessary part of my life) I grabbed the appimage and built from targz source so I had two backups. You never know is right

brent I confess, I do have telegram installed on my mobile devices as well, but I prefer to use the desktop pc with the big screen. 😆

I feel the same way about email. It's there, in case I ever need it in an emergency, but I can't imagine why anyone would choose to read and answer emails on a tiny screen, with an even tinier keyboard.

elfprince WetGeek add me to the desktop-is-king user. Most of the world is happy with something tiny as their control center (a member of my family sold her laptop and cancelled her internet service claiming "my whole life is on my phone anyway"). I'm the opposite. I am not of the generation where I could watch a tv show or movie on a cell phone that is for sure.

I know what you mean. My granddaughter eats lunch with her phone in one hand and a sandwich in the other. She's gotten really good at that. And her phone is tiny, even by smartphone standards.

I have the same problem on Budgie Solus:

elfprince my impression was it was a known issue by telegram. maybe. team solus probably knows but I don't know that. that link is hard to interpret especially dev commentary but it mentioned a qt patch (I think) affecting telegram-desktop and launcher. no one came out and said 'the app can't launch'. see what @George says or a dev.

brent Yes, I wonder if he meant I need to install telegram from the net and then edit a file to add the patch. Not user level activity, I think. 😆

elfprince no, I just wanted to say that the bug was fixed in release 3.4.4 (current 3.5.2), In solus repo Telegram version 3.4.3
