Black Friday
The older I get the more important it is for me to support local businesses, not national franchises with local offices. I like locally sourced but that is extreme luxury - especially for clothing. For the most part, I've given up on constant barrage of once in a lifetime sales or buy now while supplies last...I'm with @Harvey , half the time the sale is but a regular price post-markup to make us think we are saving. Bah Humbug!

Local franchises ARE local businesses. They just have advertising and other support from their corporate offices, but the folks running them are local people from the community. In some cases, they provide hundreds of jobs.
i got a Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro 16. Ryzen 5 and no graphics card. The screen on my old laptop is too small (or are my eyes too old?) It will be nice to use a big screen. There's major flooding going on in my area so I suspect delivery will take an extra week or so.
I wonder if Lenovo ever sells a full price computer.
I never follow the hype and crowds.
WetGeek You get this yet? How is it? Snappy with a good screen?
I'm trying to return the 2 I just got. Opened the first box, screen is damaged. Then noticed the sticker on the screen protector lists the cheaper processor..... IE not the one I paid for. Have confirmed that not only is 1 damaged but they shipped two of the wrong units. So now I'm looking for a replacment...
Not yet. The order page says it will be here by end of day tomorrow. I'll let you know how it works out.
WetGeek So get this.. I tried to do a return on the tablets, it said non-returnable. But there was an option to chat with an agent so I chose it. I explained that I got 2 tablets, one was still unopened the other had a damaged screen and neither matched the item description. They said they'd refund my card in full. Told me to dispose of, keep, or donate the tablets... I re-iterated one was completely unopened. They said no problem, sorry for the trouble, have a great day.
zmaint They said no problem,
Sounds like it could have been a lot worse. Maybe the unopened one will be useful, and the other might be good for parts some day. Did you order from Amazon, or somewhere else? I've been buying from Amazon since they were just a book store, and I've always had good luck when I've needed to return something. I went through three desktop computers once until finally the fourth one was good, and they did all the refunds cheerfully.
WetGeek Yep Amazon. I'm guessing they have some sort of threshold where it makes more $$ sense for them to just credit than it does to mess with the expense of processing a return. It was pretty painless. I'm sure we can find a use for both. The defect in the display is weird, it's like there are air bubbles under the actual material. There are 3, all around 1/8 inch wide, including one right in the center of the display. I'll probably just use it to play some games on.

since i live in southern asia, i never see people here talking about black friday. i only recently began hearing about it. nothing of a significance here.
is black friday like some festival?
[deleted] It's the in-store big sale day for the US, maybe some other western countries, that kinda kicks off the shopping season for christmas. As of late it's been mostly closeouts of older models and that kind of stuff, but you can sometimes still find a good deal. The next Monday is referred to as cyber Monday, where the sales are in the stores online storefront instead of in store. There is a lot of overlap and it's kinda evolved into a 4-5 day free for all sale online or in store these days.
[deleted] s black friday like some festival
The name comes from the fact that a lot of businesses operate "in the red" for most of the year, but when the holiday season arrives with increased gift-giving, and end-of-year bonuses, those business can finally operate "in the black," which means to operate profitably.
This black Friday bought some digital products like windows 10 pro edition key on sale, few games from steam those were on sale. Also bought VPN from Black Friday deal for 5 years.
