Gotta couple cheapo android tablets. Not a lot of good sales today on the stuff I like. Maybe Monday.

zmaint Gotta couple cheapo android tablets

You gave me a great idea ... I've been reading Nook books on a couple of tablets for almost ten years, and the older one is starting to show its age. Early Android that can't be updated, locks up now and then and has to be restarted to continue reading, slowness, etc., etc.

I'll bet I could find a great deal on a new one on Cyber Monday! I hadn't even thought of that until you mentioned it. Thanks!

I've only picked up Huntdown on Steam (also available on GOG). It has a native Linux version and is currently discounted.

just grabbed a game I wanted on discount and called it a day, I hate consumerism culture.

Actually, I think I was able to find a good deal today, and it will be delivered tomorrow morning. We get groceries delivered by Walmart, and really love the service. On a whim I queried for a deal on a tablet, and found a very modern model with full HD screen, 8-core processor, and Android 11. It's time to retire my oldest tablet, and I'll do so tomorrow.

This was supposedly a Cyber Monday deal made available a little early, as part of our WM+ membership ... sorta like Amazon Prime, of which we've also been members for a very long time.

WetGeek I totally forgot to even look at Walmart. That's where I got my Lenovo's last year on a great deal.. I'll have to remember to check them tomorrow.

Scam day. Example, I have been looking at getting an iPhone SE. Which sells for $679 in Australia. In the months leading up the price has been stable (Apple keep tight control on sales price). On Black Friday the price on one third party seller jumped to $729 with a sign that says "don't pay $849" which no one was ever going to, it has never been that expensive. Direct from Apple it is still $679.

Everything I have seen is the exact same price they have been all year, has been cheaper in previous sales or minimally discounted such as by 2%.

Retailers use tricks such as selling you old models or basic models of the product you actually want to buy luring you in. They will present it in a way that makes you think you are getting a deal when they're just moving stuff that does not sell well. They continue to advertise the price the product launched with years ago stretching the perceived discount that Black Friday is giving you when in reality its just the new RRP and you would know that if you had been paying attention but they know most people see "SALE" and can't help but throw their money away.

They all prey on the mentality of "It was on sale so I saved $100!" which makes people spend money on shit they do not need. Reality is you can't save money by spending it.

zmaint I'll have to remember to check them tomorrow.

This is the one I got. I was mistaken about getting it tomorrow, though. When I looked at my order again, it said it would be delivered on Tuesday. It's rice and curry paste that's arriving tomorrow. 😄

WetGeek zmaint I forgot about wallymart too. for the 139 [how it showed up on my screen with my location] price of yr tablet I can upgrade wife's 20" desktop monitor to a 27" which will help her eyeballs and make her happy.

Harvey those are the very reasons I am ok reaching a little lower to nearly new and have preserved my ebay acct so long.

brent I can upgrade wife's 20" desktop monitor to a 27" which will help her eyeballs and make her happy.

That's incredibly important. I've always said, when Mom ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy!

The older I get the more important it is for me to support local businesses, not national franchises with local offices. I like locally sourced but that is extreme luxury - especially for clothing. For the most part, I've given up on constant barrage of once in a lifetime sales or buy now while supplies last...I'm with @Harvey , half the time the sale is but a regular price post-markup to make us think we are saving. Bah Humbug!

jppelt The older I get the more important it is for me to support local businesses, not national franchises

Local franchises ARE local businesses. They just have advertising and other support from their corporate offices, but the folks running them are local people from the community. In some cases, they provide hundreds of jobs.

i got a Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro 16. Ryzen 5 and no graphics card. The screen on my old laptop is too small (or are my eyes too old?) It will be nice to use a big screen. There's major flooding going on in my area so I suspect delivery will take an extra week or so.
I wonder if Lenovo ever sells a full price computer.

WetGeek You get this yet? How is it? Snappy with a good screen?
I'm trying to return the 2 I just got. Opened the first box, screen is damaged. Then noticed the sticker on the screen protector lists the cheaper processor..... IE not the one I paid for. Have confirmed that not only is 1 damaged but they shipped two of the wrong units. So now I'm looking for a replacment...

Not yet. The order page says it will be here by end of day tomorrow. I'll let you know how it works out.
