kyrios You don't need to know the old password. When you chroot
I know he said "aside from chrooting" 🙂
That's pretty disappointing. I'd always believed Linux was more secure than that.
So does the same thing with Windows. Physical access isn't always hard to come by.
"If someone has physical access to your computer, it is no longer your computer"
"Physical access is root access"
These sayings exist for a reason. Regardless of OS, unless a computer has full disk encryption put anyone with moderate computer knowledge / experience in front a computer an they can get in if they want to. Just like with every physical lock in existence, it just slows you down, it does not prevent access.
Disable additional boot devices so I can't boot off a live disk? takes out screw driver, removes SSD/HDD and plugs it into a HDD dock, I now have your files, that took what 5mins?
Have full disk encryption? with physical access I could add a hardware keylogger in line to your keyboard. There are so many more things you can do when you have physical access, you won't stop anyone that knows what they're doing and is sufficiently motivated.
