Vambro no matter what I type in there, it says that i should "try to avoid common words" and does not allow me to go forward
Are you doing this in the GUI or by using the command line? They work differently, at least on Budgie.
My wife is non-technical and doesn't use her laptop for anything that's remotely sensitive. When I set up her computer, I couldn't use her preferred password (a 5-letter, lowercase, name of her cat) for obvious reasons, but once I set up her account with a strong temporary password, it was easy to change it to the cat's name at the command line.
The command is simply sudo passwd (username)
. After the command, you'll be prompted for your password for sudo, then a new password for the user, and a confirmation. If you can't set a desired password for the new user, and you happen to be doing it from the GUI, it might work without a problem from the command line.
If you're getting this kind of response from the command line, though, something has definitely changed.
