budgie-desktop-view showing home folder

All went good. Nothing output so it's built fine.
But here's where I am stuck:

How do I do this?

This step above was successful (no output) so the last step is to duplicate what I just did? I am certainly not software engineer grade yet🙂

brent Hey there, running ./desktop_file_test is actually me saying "run the newly generated binary called desktop_file_test, which is different from the .vala source file". To do this, you need to reference it in the current working directory, hence the ./ 🙂 Hope that clarifies things.

The reboot worked even though I have no output to show you.

This is the first time I have been able to click on my desktop and open anything since that update a month ago.
Usually I just have to open desktop files through Nautilus.
Good news JoshStrobl , it worked.

Do I uninstall glib2-devel and vala and just wait for the eventual fix?

I gothcha I think.
I ran desktop_file_test.vala with no output which was a good thing. That was saved and run from my home/brent/desktop. I did the cd in the terminal.
From this same directory I can locate no binary file called desktop_file_test.
On the whole computer I can find no file called desktop_file_test, either. Just the .vala

I will reboot.

I'm very confused because all that program does is spit the path of a couple directories. Interesting that a reboot would work, that classic "have you tried turning it off and on again".

It looks like you saved your desktop_file_test.vala file to your Desktop folder. Did you cd into the Desktop folder from the Terminal and run valac desktop_file_test.vala? If you do ls, does it not show a "desktop_file_test" without the vala extension? 🤔

Yes, exactly. I did change directories in terminal (cd /home/brent/Desktop), ran the command desktop_file_test.vala. It produced no output as you predicted.

No, the file does not appear to exist. Did the ls. Nautilus searched /home and also /computer. Nada.

Maybe running desktop_file_test.vala was not a success?

brent I believe you may have missed the important valac part before desktop_file_test.vala, which is responsible for compiling the vala file into an executable 🙂

But on the desktop I just got this new file:

Ah could you try doing sudo eopkg install -c system.devel please?

~/Desktop $ ./desktop_file_test 
/home/brent/Desktop is the reported get_user_special_dir for UserDirectory.DESKTOP
/home/brent is the reported home dir

edit: desktop files and folders can be launched from desktop for the first time in a long time. This is good.
(Next: restore drag and drop. I know, I know, don't push it...)

and I already had glib2-devel and vala installed.

Just to add, I managed to create a new user, called cylb, this new user has desktop-view working as it should. Maybe a configuration file not updated?

YuriTheHenrique Update on tests here;
I searched on the web and xdg-user-dirs man page, since the new user has it working, and man page told me that it fallback to system default configuration if it does not have a file at the login, I tried a little thing:

Got to ~/.config and renamed user-dirs.dirs to user-dirs.dirs.backup, then in terminal I did xdg-user-dirs-gtk-update and xdg-user-dirs-update

Restarted my session, and it is working.
