I followed all steps this time, and no errors. Still, I got # ping google.com ping: unknown host error. From there I am stuck.

By the way, there is no encryption on my system. mount: /target: unknown filesystem type 'LVM2_member message was still there when I was doing mount /dev/sda2 /target .

I'm reading up a storm but it's all different distros and quite a rabbit hole. UUID stands out. Seen some 'solutions'. All 'at your own risk' stuff. Solus @reddit had nothing either.

Upon further follow up, this does not work:

cp /etc/resolv.conf /target/etc/

you made it to ping (still got lvm error?).
you tried network command portion and failed here. why did you add cat in command.

try grep broken and sysconf final 2 steps and reboot? maybe fixing your network connection to your HDD via Live usb not important here?

brent As it happens, on my Solus, the resolv.conf file does not live in /etc .
I had to follow links to `/var/run/NetworkManager', and create the file there. Now, the ping works. Stand by for next events..... 🙂

is that normal and only the original OS can do that unchecked stuff? (initial thought, have no idea)
I did this step too but can't remember all the unchecked. think I typed 'exit' as instructed after this and away we went.
I don't know if that's the right thing to do at this point, however.

brent Unfortunately, I am still on black screen, with emergency shell. The boot rescue steps did not work for this situation. Maybe a hardware problem? Seem to be out of options here.

I will have someone look at the hardware, and if that fails, will try to install Solus on an external usb hard drive. At this point I can't even reinstall Solus or any other OS on it.

To recap my problem: An fsck error with a data in journal not cleared is forcing a boot into an emergency shell on a black screen.

Can some one on Solus Dev team change the title of this post please? Misleading, now that that is not the problem at hand.

elfprince I'm stumped. At this stage, where you are at, I've had to find a commands to reinstall, re-marry, and restart lightdm and greeters. With the fsck I'm not sure this is your problem.
Can anyone point elfprince in the right direction?

This post is CLOSED. I have replaced my SSD drive and now using Solus MATE, instead of Budgie.

elfprince Sorry I couldn't help you get to the cause of this. Doesn't seem right to part with your budgie this way. Hopefully you had what you needed backed up.

brent NO problem, .... and I am now back on Budgie. Somehow, Mate didn't work for me. Also, the movies were 'stuttering'. Budgie does not seem to have that issue. Yes, all important data is backed up and can be restored easily. Thanks! 😄

Interesting. That's exactly opposite the situation here. I use Budgie on all of our computers, except the media machine that drives our TV. Mate does a better job there.
