I have been trying to install ubuntu 20.04 and it was a complete failure. I got frustrated until i completely gave up and found this amazing linux distro(SOLUSOS). I have been trying to install it the whole day but it just wont work. Tried reinstalling the iso, i also tried using different live usb installers(rufus, balenaetcher, etc) and rufus has only gotten me so far. It goes to the automatic boot which has two options(boot solusos or go to the firmware). When i try to boot solusos, it just gives me acpi bios error and failed to mount /sysroot respectively. I have tried to do various things like diasbling security boot, disabling fast boot, setting the boot to legacy and uefi. It just wont boot. Pls help

Edit: somehow, i cant post pictures of my problem but im aure this is a common problem. This is my first time installing linux.
Laptop is Lenovo G40-80

1 make sure your iso image is no corrupted or anything
2 make sure the usb stick is properly written
since you are 100% sure that these are done correctly then it's probably some bios setting
try downloading some other distro as well to check if it is a distro problem although i doubt it

Rufus is correct if installing from windows. Rufus is incorrect if you are installing iso from Linux. You never said.
As @[deleted] said above, you read the help center install stuff, right?

Rufus is tricky. Solus does not have the current Rufus on their Help Center picture (last time I did this). Match every setting you can. Remember not to choose iso in settings. change up a setting or two and try it again.

Depending on new your lenovo, it could be a bios setting.

A live iso usb aborting on boot or partial boot is a strange one.

brent Solus does not have the current Rufus

On Solus I use Etcher to burn USB drives. In fact, I did it twice today. It's never failed me, and it's incredibly easy to use.

On Windows, Rufus is fine. There's a Windows version of Etcher, too, but I still use Rufus out of habit.

🙂 Etcher comes highly recommended; I use it a lot to burn OS images on my flash drive.

What you can do is download a fresh image of Solus GNOME and use Etcher to put it together.

Try installing Solus GNOME in the legacy mode in the bios.

And, do your first update via the terminal using the command: sudo eopkg up

There are times when the GUI version of the software updater ruin things.

Please keep us (the Solus forum members) updated on your progress.

[deleted] Have tried download the budgie version which have not also succeeded in doing so(same error as the gnome version) tried two different usb sticks. 16 and 32gb

brent. Have tried different ones. Rufus was the most success i have ever got but still to no avail could not get it properly booted. Have tried different settings like dd image and iso image. Different settings too like quick format and other stuff still no success. Have tried budge version and gnome version theyre both showing errors

Renard I am going to use etcher again and am going to pray for it to work. As for the terminal thing. Where can i do it? From the windoes command prompt or powershell? Or grub? Sorry i am a complete novice when it comes to linux and computers so my questions are really stupid

What exactly is the error with acpi? Copy it and paste it here. Please provide the specification of your laptop inxi -F

Forgive me if I am slightly on the wrong track here; but I have heard that some machines can boot with acpi switched off so maybe this is an option. I remember reading a Red Hat Linux article about some hardware shipping with buggy acpi firmware. A quick search; and I have found said article maybe it would help in this situation? I am no expert but often find many solutions to these sorts of problems scattered across the forums of Solus and other OS's.

pomon Its a lenovo g40-80 intel i5-5200U 6gb ram 2.20ghz and hdd. The error was acpi bios error(bug)could not resolve symbol

Well, according to the link provided by @DJSupertel when starting Live Solus, press Tab and add acpi=off at the end of the line. If that doesn't work, you can try adding noapic or nolapic, or all of them.

pomon tried doing all of them.
Acpi=off brings me to a black screen.
Noapic brings me to my error again thus nothing happened.
Nolapic brings me to an error but its like a shorter error. There was no failed to mount /sysroot and no emergency mode. Im starting to think its my laptop's problem. Have already tried ubuntu and two solus os versions and still nothing

You can check it out yet acpi_osi=! acpi_osi="Windows 2009". I asked you to provide a specification. What is your graphics card because the black screen is usually a problem with the graphics card drivers. You may need to add a parameter from modeset.

              Options: acpi_osi=! acpi_osi="Windows 2015" or acpi=off nomodeset

Updating the BIOS can also cure this problem if the BIOS shipped had buggy firmware. ACPI off would mess up windows if you are trying to dual boot but as said above a black screen is usually a problem with the graphics card. Updating the BIOS was a tip given on a Ubuntu forum question I remember from some time last year when someone was faced with this problem.

Linux13 When it finally boots, update Solus GNOME via the terminal (It should be listed under "System Tools" in the menu).

Appreciate all the effort guys. Havent tried anything after doing the acpi thing. Thought that i should take a break. Wish me luck, although i have tested my ram using memtest86 i am still not satisfied so i am goinf to go test it again and see if it is my hardware or im just unlucky and stupid

Linux13 Have you tried to add what I gave you earlier? Maybe this: acpi=off i915.modeset=1.
Read about modeset and acp i and try different combinations of entries.

pomon this is not really related to acpi error but why do i get a failed to mount /sysroot error.

pomon it wont work at all. im going to update my bios and then ill see what i can do.

Just noticed that oftenly Shitdows 10 dont really shut down but it hibernates. Check that this is not the case. It can be pretty hard to tell...

Funilly I seem to have the same problem in a new laptop. Solus wont boot hanging in a black screen with
                    Invalid acp audio mode: 0
Havent really tinkered the bios. Mint boots but trackpad is not working. Havent tested other distros yet.

                    Linux13 Any updates on that?

Linux13 where did 2 videos come into play on a laptop? the intel is the main one? Maybe
I am seeing it wrong? If there are 2 I would disable one and try it

maybe this can help you down in the comments is also your model...you probably need it for another os not for win7 like in video

                      2 months later

Axios replying after some time. intel is the main one I guess? it's the integrated and amd is the discrete gpu and
no i still haven't fixed this problem.
