I just want to chime in to report on this thread that I had the exact same issue apparently except with Intel graphics & 'sudo clr-boot-manager update' as suggested by DataDrake worked for me as well.
@TheVE I don't want to derail this thread, but if I understand your unrelated monitor issue correctly, you should check out the Solus docs article on switching from Current to LTS, or vice versa, and keeping that setting. You'd need to boot into the kernel that works for you and then run sudo clr-boot-manager update again to preserve it upon reboot.
