I have installed Google Chrome using the following method:

sudo eopkg bi --ignore-safety https://raw.githubusercontent.com/getsolus/3rd-party/master/network/web/browser/google-chrome-stable/pspec.xml
sudo eopkg it google-chrome-*.eopkg;sudo rm google-chrome-*.eopkg

and when i try to run Flash Player, it asks me to right click to install it, so i do it, after it says restart chrome to get flash working, so i close it and reopen it, go to the same website where i really need flash player to work as it's very important for my work, so i click the app i want to run, Chrome asks me to allow that website to run flash, i allow it, and i get a white page, asking me to right click to run plugin, i right click to run the plugin, and nothing happens

only way i mangaged to get Flash to work was to run Chrome with the --no-sandbox argument, which is not preffered ... so i googled around a little, and to my understanding it comes down to chrome-sandbox not having the proper suid

Trying to run it as root with --no-sandbox gets it to run, but i get the following terminal output

root@susanoo / # [0328/141258.414063:ERROR:nacl_helper_linux.cc(310)] NaCl helper process running without a sandbox!
Most likely you need to configure your SUID sandbox correctly

So, to my understanding so far, it's a problem with permissions of the sandbox as flash runs without sandbox enabled ...

anyone able to figure this out?

also, when i installed Solus GNOME, Chrome says that my chrome is managed by my Organization ... o.O I am not part of any organization
this is where it shows that I'm managed by my organization

and this is where it shows that I am not part of a organization

Bad packaging?

seems this problem exists in Vivaldi and other Chromium based browsers on Solus

Yes, that is the result of us pre-installing the chrome-gnome-shell extension, which enables you to install extensions via https://extensions.gnome.org - Without it, you'd have to jump through hoops to enable the functionality.

You can validate this by going to chrome://policy. You will notice the policy name is "ExtensionInstallForcelist" and the Policy value is gphhapmejobijbbhgpjhcjognlahblep;https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx

gphhapmejobijbbhgpjhcjognlahblep is the extension ID for the Chrome GNOME Shell extension, which you can see via chrome://extensions

To be absolutely clear, we have no access to your data, we do not manage your account. Chromium-based browsers just do not differentiate between installs which have accounts that are actually part of a GSuite organization v.s. an extension simply being pre-installed. You can audit the code here, it's developed by GNOME.

i am curious about flash and browsers
are there substitutes for flash or are there other desktop programs that handle flash better than GNOME or GNOME/Chromium? i don't know which are Chromium based

    11 days later

Vivaldi, Opera, even Microsofts Internet Explorer is now Chromium based, lack of flash on Chrome is the reason i moved away from Solus, love the distro, but its still not where it needs to be ....
you can not replace flash in Google Chrome, its integrated

KronikPillow you can not replace flash in Google Chrome, its integrated

uhh... no, it's not? You have to install Flash. It's even still in the 3rd party repo.

He's right though, Flash doesn't work with Chrome/Vivaldi on Solus atm, and I have no idea why.

Staudey My first guess would be a Chrome configuration thing. I don't know if they've (Chrome) gotten to the point of disabling Flash by default (I want to say they have, though). Given that, you know, Flash is about to EOL shortly, and its from Flash's own recommendations to browsers.

Fatih19 The answer to that question is, I am told, is a big fat no, sooner than later.
