Even today I think Apache OO is still lighter, simpler, more robust, and un-bloated compared to libre. I have fond memories. It's similar in simplicity to Word circa '05? In fact I would not pay MS a cent for word suite for my last years with them. OO is that good. As is Libre. Libre has a trillion more buttons and I'm a "less is more" type person. You sounded aghast; I had to reply...
Downside is it's SO underdeveloped, as you know.

downhill I don't think only office is proprietary, I think the document server's as well as the standalone clients' source code is published in GitHub.. 🤔

downhill As far as I remember, their app is open source. But is not necessarily FOSS + they develop some features that are available only if you pay a certain sum of money per month -> e.g.: hosting OnlyOffice for +20 people. I use it because most of the people use .docx and .xlsx ... 🙂

It is also the easiest way to move people way from Microsoft products ^^

cdorin Nice alternative and I will give it a try. But from your experience, are there any incompatibilities between OnlyOffice and MS Office ?
I am asking cause sometimes I found little problems between LibreOffice (which I use) with MS Office.

If you google hard enough there is always discount codes for Softmaker Office(the premium version of Only office). Typically a year prescription for free, worth trying it for a year, I know for myself I will be sticking with it after my free year subscription has ran out

At this juncture in time Open Office is just pure abandonware, chocked to death by sickly Oracle embrace, which is not surprising. I'd say just stay away from it. Libre Office is now miles ahead of Open Office and on a healthy trajectory. I am surprised the brighter minds in here left it to me to point this out.
