I recommend you to use wps-office or onlyoffice, if you don't like libreoffice.

algent Algent. At this moment I work with WPS. You were the one that helped me installing it. Wonderfull. I justed wanted to try OO and see how it works, that's all. Anyway, thanks again.:

downhill Not answering for MikeInglis , just for myself.
Even today I think Apache OO is still lighter, simpler, more robust, and un-bloated compared to libre. I have fond memories. It's similar in simplicity to Word circa '05? In fact I would not pay MS a cent for word suite for my last years with them. OO is that good. As is Libre. Libre has a trillion more buttons and I'm a "less is more" type person. You sounded aghast; I had to reply...
Downside is it's SO underdeveloped, as you know.

Installing debs is absolutely not recommended. As Justin pointed out it is a unsupported use at your own risk alternative to simply extracting it to /

If you just extract it to / depending on what you are attempting to install it could overwrite important files, install to the wrong location so it does not integrate with Solus and/or be built against dependencies Solus does not have / has different versions of so it will not work at all. On top of all that it also can not be tracked by the package manager for removal so removing / updating it is a PITA for the user.

Solus does actually repackage .deb's to .eopkg when building from source is not possible and upstream only provides a .deb https://dev.getsol.us/source/opera-stable/browse/master/package.yml But as you can see we don't just extract it to / and let it do what it wants.

downhill Generally yes, but I tried to make the script only extract and place things that go in /opt (no system breakage here) and /usr/share/applications/ for the menu entries. However as stated, use at your own risk, etc.

downhill As far as I remember, their app is open source. But is not necessarily FOSS + they develop some features that are available only if you pay a certain sum of money per month -> e.g.: hosting OnlyOffice for +20 people. I use it because most of the people use .docx and .xlsx ... 🙂

It is also the easiest way to move people way from Microsoft products ^^

cdorin Nice alternative and I will give it a try. But from your experience, are there any incompatibilities between OnlyOffice and MS Office ?
I am asking cause sometimes I found little problems between LibreOffice (which I use) with MS Office.

If you google hard enough there is always discount codes for Softmaker Office(the premium version of Only office). Typically a year prescription for free, worth trying it for a year, I know for myself I will be sticking with it after my free year subscription has ran out

At this juncture in time Open Office is just pure abandonware, chocked to death by sickly Oracle embrace, which is not surprising. I'd say just stay away from it. Libre Office is now miles ahead of Open Office and on a healthy trajectory. I am surprised the brighter minds in here left it to me to point this out.
