This is how i manage my system when it comes to backup, restore, installing and setup, thought it might be useful to others.
Backup & restore /home using grsync.
Settings to make a backup:
1) Install grsync in the Software Center.
2) In grsync click on the + to the right of the âdefaultâ profile, and create a new âSolus Backupâ profile.
3) To the right of âSource and Destinationâ, there is a ? in a blue square that you can click on. (helpful info about how to set source & destination)
4) Enter the source & destination path.
5) Under âAdvanced optionsâ > âAdditional optionsâ i exclude the following folders by typing: --exclude=âlost+foundâ âexclude=â.cacheâ (folders that can safely be ignored).
6) Click the different check boxes as shown in the picture below.
7) To start a backup click on the icon in the top right corner, if you hover the mouse over it, it will show âMake a full run (go!)â
When you recover your home folder, the settings shown in the pictures below, is assuming that you use the same user/account name!
Settings to restore a backup:
1) After starting Grsync click on the + to the right of the âdefaultâ or âSolus Backupâ profile, to create a new âSolus Restoreâ profile.
2) Enter the source & destination path, make sure the path is correct. (take a look at the ? in the blue square, to the right of the profile again).
3) Click the different check boxes as shown in the picture below.
4) To start a recovery click on the icon in the top right corner, when you hover over it it will show âMake a full run (go!)â.
5) Reboot.
