If not solus, what distro would you be using

Probably would return to Manjaro or Zorin on my personal computer that has been running Solus for almost two years now. I also like MX a bit, so might give that another go. I haven't checked on if they have an official or community supported KDE flavor, which might be a breaking point for me. It would be hard, I've grown to really enjoy Solus as an all purpose OS. It's my favorite to boot up every time and I've run through quite a few distros over the years. I also run Pop_OS (for work) and Gentoo (for fun/experimentation) daily on different machines. Would definitely be a challenge to replace Solus and find the same gratification in another distro.

Manjaro, maybe Pop!_OS, but probably Manjaro. But that's only if Solus ever dies, which it probably won't. Solus is my favorite distro!

@MMB I will never go back to Win in my lifetime unless it's 7, and if it's 7 we're dead anyway because it's a hacker's ball (end of life support). That's pretending it was never hacker's ball. I considered briefly a return to OSX but I can't see where it has evolved from 10-15 years ago and I still use it at one job. Just like in 2005. I notice nothing different...
JohannPopper If it was a "doomsday scenario" then I'm here. It's a rightfully proud team here that can't tell the good guys from the bad guys quite often--nature of any blog community I guess when all comm is digtal. Hopefully someday soon they will let my (our) cash do the talking; solus deserves it.. Suse is like a wrestling match to operate. The others bore. Pop looks lovely too. Watched some reviews today. But Ubu, Deb, and Fed never did nothing for me as far as an ethos, if that makes sense, Commander (Lt.), although I'm down with foss all day and night...
A guy named @WetGeek said it best a few days ago that solus makes it so easy and gorgeous that it's hard to remember the others. Hope they can take that to the bank someday.

adurante with a good theme I think it's nice. I don't see any real difference visually between it and mate, plasma, lxde etc.

I prefer Thunar to Nautilus/Nemo too... it's nice and simple.

adurante I totally agree! My main was MX for quite awhile but I just couldn't go back to a DE that has the ugly XFCE lol. I have tried Ubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Fedora, Arch, Clear... then went back to MX because it just works.. But I couldnt settle on the ugly interface. Saw Solus one day and thought, "Why havent I tried this one yet?" and BOOM. Fell in love. Perfectly light with a great looking DE. SOLD!

Quite ok I'm not surprised at all by your answers it is true that Xf ... I have not tried a lot good I'm not happy, against Mx resources level to not siter seems to me greedy mons ??? it's just to have your impressions? for a very very old laptop

I actually like XFCE. Budgie is great and all but XFCE is not bad, it's probably my second choice after budgie.

I used KDE on openSUSE for years, but then changed to Xfce, and was pleased that it performed so much better, and had all the features I wanted or needed. If Budgie weren't available on a distro I was trying out, I'd gladly settle for Xfce.

Even though i hated my experience with Manjaro and Arch in general.
But for me Linux is pretty much the same wherever i go, things like
GNU in general never change so what matters most to me is how the distro's usability is like.
And Solus fits my lazy non-problem solving self. 😂

I think I have quite a bit of Linux experience (as a user only, though). Started very long time ago with SuSE (bought installation CD's back then, because downloading via modem connection would not have worked 🙂. Switched to Ubuntu, using different desktops (mostly depending on computer hardware) from there, via Sparky and Manjaro, to Solus.

Now, I have to admit, I'm using a dual boot system with Manjaro (XFCE) and Solus (Budgie) as some packages, I use from time to time, are not available in Solus.

Solus is the daily driver. Main reasons: Lightning fast boot (a few seconds only on an ASUS laptop with SSD) and stability.

To answer the "poll": I would be using Manjaro.

Though my daily driver is Solus, I'm also fond of Ubuntu (specifically Mate) as I've grown familiar with it as it's required for my work.
On server, I like btrfs/snapper quite a bit, so I'm also fond of OpenSUSE, but their desktop experience leaves quite a bit to be desired IMO.

openSUSE offers quite a number of desktop experiences. I'm curious which one you didn't like? My favorite was Xfce, and I disliked gnome, but mostly because it was so unfamiliar to me. There was not enough configuration available to make me want to use it.

for my daily use it would have to be another stale Distro as this is my No1 Priority. Also my main use is for Audio work so it either be Ubuntu Studio or Maybe Mint with the Ubuntu Studio Apps installed. But thank heaven this is a hypothetical questions anyway. :-)
