I really like Solus and budgie project but in my case the question doesn't suit me because my main distribution is Slackware....

I've been using Arch for a while, now I'm digging EndeavourOS XFCE

I used Fedora, but not perfect. I was forced to go back to Windows 10 for hardware optimization and Nvidia Optimus. Solus OS is just incredible! Beautifully crafted (with taste) and complete. I use a script for optimus, I also managed to make my brother printer to work which was my last blocking issue! So far so so good! Keep the good work!

synth-ruiner It's a cool distro. Definitely worth trying. However, it's not as user-friendly as Solus, it is for powerusers.
The sharedlib checking feature of XBPS should be copied in eopkg! It makes the system more stable, and reduces packaging work.
I haven't experienced a broken update on Void. If the update is going to break sharedlib deps, XBPS don't allow installing it until it's fixed. Solus is also very stable - I haven't experienced a broken update on Solus either, but the automatic sharedlib dependency checking could be implemented for reducing packaging work.

JohannPopper What's the value-add between Pop and Ubuntu flavors? The only thing I know is better handling of switchable graphics but would be glad to hear your impressions 😀

    [deleted] Imho,

    1) I subjectively like the Pop GTK & Shell theme a lot, but I'm one of those freaks who thought Karmic Koala was the most beautiful Ubuntu. I dig brown and orange, and I do apologize.
    2) Pop adds a few gaming related pieces of software to their repo that's a bit less work for me out of the box.
    3) Pop doesn't use the Ubuntu Dock/Dash-to-Dock by default, which sadly still doesn't work well with touchscreens. And unlike Solus GNOME which defaults to Dash-to-Dock, but includes Gnome Tweaks out of the box so it's easily deactivated, default Ubuntu requires users to install a whole new session to get rid of their dock, which is easily one of the most absurd UX design choices in the history of computing.
    4) Notwithstanding #3, I like Ubuntu well enough that Pop's foundation won't unnecessarily irritate me with arbitrary limits, like how Fedora used to make me install a package after install just to get subpixely fonts! !! !!!
    5) Pop's two iso deal with the nvidia and intel versions is cool I guess.
    6) Pop's Kernelstub is easy to use for adding kernel parameters to make hardware like brightness control and fans behave on laptops, etc.

All this being said, I'd never switch from Solus. I treat this thread's question like a doomsday scenario question. If Solus ever died, I might not use computers anymore.

Probably would return to Manjaro or Zorin on my personal computer that has been running Solus for almost two years now. I also like MX a bit, so might give that another go. I haven't checked on if they have an official or community supported KDE flavor, which might be a breaking point for me. It would be hard, I've grown to really enjoy Solus as an all purpose OS. It's my favorite to boot up every time and I've run through quite a few distros over the years. I also run Pop_OS (for work) and Gentoo (for fun/experimentation) daily on different machines. Would definitely be a challenge to replace Solus and find the same gratification in another distro.

Manjaro, maybe Pop!_OS, but probably Manjaro. But that's only if Solus ever dies, which it probably won't. Solus is my favorite distro!

@MMB I will never go back to Win in my lifetime unless it's 7, and if it's 7 we're dead anyway because it's a hacker's ball (end of life support). That's pretending it was never hacker's ball. I considered briefly a return to OSX but I can't see where it has evolved from 10-15 years ago and I still use it at one job. Just like in 2005. I notice nothing different...
JohannPopper If it was a "doomsday scenario" then I'm here. It's a rightfully proud team here that can't tell the good guys from the bad guys quite often--nature of any blog community I guess when all comm is digtal. Hopefully someday soon they will let my (our) cash do the talking; solus deserves it.. Suse is like a wrestling match to operate. The others bore. Pop looks lovely too. Watched some reviews today. But Ubu, Deb, and Fed never did nothing for me as far as an ethos, if that makes sense, Commander (Lt.), although I'm down with foss all day and night...
A guy named @WetGeek said it best a few days ago that solus makes it so easy and gorgeous that it's hard to remember the others. Hope they can take that to the bank someday.

        Hello
I would add to my first message a distibution discovered for me these last day named MX Linux that seems pretty good at all.

adurante with a good theme I think it's nice. I don't see any real difference visually between it and mate, plasma, lxde etc.

I prefer Thunar to Nautilus/Nemo too... it's nice and simple.

adurante I totally agree! My main was MX for quite awhile but I just couldn't go back to a DE that has the ugly XFCE lol. I have tried Ubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Fedora, Arch, Clear... then went back to MX because it just works.. But I couldnt settle on the ugly interface. Saw Solus one day and thought, "Why havent I tried this one yet?" and BOOM. Fell in love. Perfectly light with a great looking DE. SOLD!

          good evening
Quite ok I'm not surprised at all by your answers it is true that Xf ... I have not tried a lot good I'm not happy, against Mx resources level to not siter seems to me greedy mons ??? it's just to have your impressions? for a very very old laptop

I'ḿ use Debian and Solus, two PC.
