Installation freezes on "examining local storage devices"

WetGeek HP Bara motherboard, Intel i7-7700K, GTX 1060 (3GB), 16GB ram.
I've got Ubuntu Budgie and Solus Budgie installed on a persistent drive, I can run both with no issues over USB or direct SATA connection. Also no other problems running the installation media.
I'm going to see if I can get Zorin 15 Core to install Wednesday and then try and write over that partition with Solus. Unfortunately, I can't nuke and pave here, need to keep Windows. Funds just aren't available to drop on a 2TB Samsung 870 at the moment either.

Well, decided it wasn't worth the hassle since the PC has a total of 4 drive bays. Went and picked up a 2TB Seagate Barracuda and installed Budgie 4.1 with no problem to a clean drive.

Brucehankins Do we have to clean the full disk for installing solus? 🙁 I don't think so.. But I am in a trouble I can't install solus just because installation app stuck over examining.. I have solus 4.3 ISO file downloaded from official website.. 🙁

Was installing Solus Plasma today and ran into the same problem, the installer imo has some quirks. I wanted custom partitioning so made them before the installer. Separate partition for /home etc, also made an esp. Thing is i also have another nvme with win10 on it. The installer only wants to install the bootloader to the nvme with win10, i can't select the other one(i don't like my windows bits touching my linux bits).
Also i think in general it does not like seeing multiple efi partitions, this has caused some hangs as well. Same with unrecognized filesystems like XFS which is not enabled on lve it seems. Having an existing lvm volume on a drive can make the installer hang as well.
Managed to get it how i wanted but i had to remove some drives including the nvme with win10 which was a bit of a pain.

Having the same issue, tried restarting Installer etc.
If I don't care to retain Windows partitions, can I reformat to hopefully force Solus installation or is there another underlying issue?

I had some residual formats from trying to dual boot Windows/Solus before I gave up. I have formatted those partitions to ext4 and unchecked flags so unsure why the installer keeps hanging. But I am ok with blowing the Windows away to start from scratch

Worked, used Gparted create table, started from scratch

I faced same issue on my Lenovo Legion Y530. This is what I have tried:

1) Reboot
2) Select USB as a bootable option
3) Press e before Solus interface loaded
4) Go the end of the line and type
nouveau.modeset=0
5) Press F10
6) Press Enter
7) Continue Installation steps

This solved the issue as in my case, my Nvidia graphic card was giving me issues. After installation, reboot using the same method and then install your graphic card drivers.

Same problem today with the latest Solus Plasma.
I entered a terminal and launched :

sudo su
os-installer-gtk

It hangs at "examining local storage devices"
In the terminal I got :

mount: /tmp/tmp8i2rhinstaller: special device /dev/sda1 does not exist.
Failed to mount /dev/sda1 to /tmp/tmp8i2rhinstaller: Command 'mount -t auto /dev/sda1 "/tmp/tmp8i2rhinstaller" -o ro' returned non-zero exit status 32
...........

I have the same problem on lenovo ideapad-310, 500GB ssd. Just i saw some error in python files by running installer from terminal.

just Is it safe? because it might a wrong iso file which can be downloaded from anywhere but can affect on privacy. Please tell if it is safe then it is okay no need to worry for downloading and installing.. BTW I am a new user of Linux came from windows after switching to ubuntu, I chose solus to give it a try and I really fall in love with solus. Actually I love the boot speed of solus 🙂 Could you please tell me after installing 4.0 ISO file can we update.. ???

If you download the ISO from Solus OS, the ISO is an official build and is safe.

Yes. Solus is a rolling release. Solus 4.0 will update to Solus 4.3 in normal course, and stay current thereafter. I think you said that you downloaded the 4.3 ISO, though, so you will be current when you install/update.

That suggests to me that it would be a good idea to clean/initialize/format the target drive at this point because something isn't right.

Make sure that the target drive is GPT formatted. Is the target an NVMe drive (usually M.2) or a SATA drive (usually 2.5" SSD or HHD)? If the later, you might consider going into your BIOS and setting the SATA configuration to AHCI. That is sometimes necessary.

jitesh-mandal you don't have to, but it's good practice. Many off-brand drives have been known to ship with Jack the Ripper or similar malware, so I clean every disk before I install an OS or use it for backup purposes.

I routinely clean previously used drives before reusing/repurposing them, too. I had it hammered into my head years ago that cleaning, reinitializing and formatting before initial use or subsequent reuse/repurpose is standard "best practice" -- Windows and Linux alike -- and it falls into the "duh" category as far as I am concerned.
