They seem to be promoting the download of LLVM 9.0.0 now. That has been like that since September 19th.

It's also not listed under Git on the Releases page: http://releases.llvm.org/

So either GIthub is outdated or the site is misleading. Maybe one of the Solus Devs might be able to comment on this matter.

If I recall correctly, Solus often does not update to x.0.0 versions for very important packages. I'm pretty sure it's the case for the kernel, I wouldn't be surprised if it were also the case for a compiler like this.

It's part of what gives it the "stable" rolling release label.

But it could be for some other reasons I don't know about as well, like a bug. I can't seem to find anything on the dev portal though.

It seems that they have released x.0.0 versions before regarding LLVM I see it for 8, 7, and 6.
So its probably something else that might be preventing it like you said.

aventu No, mesalib needs to be rebuilt against it for Navi's drivers to be 100%. I know that @joebonrichie has been looking into updating it, but I haven't personally had time or I'd do it myself.

aventu Not just that, LLVM is used at run-time to compile shaders to native code in the mesalib drivers for OpenGL and Vulkan.

It seems like LLVM has been updated a couple of days ago. Did anyone test yet?

polomi I don't have the hardware in hand to test, but the kernel, mesa, and LLVM should all be sorted for initial support for the card. However, there may be a bunch of fixes in mesa-git that we don't have yet.

DataDrake Support is kind of wonky everywhere anyway, fixes will keep coming for a while I guess.

On Fedora, my main issue is that sound through DisplayPort becomes mixed with static if I have Discord running at the same time in Firefox. I didn't see any patch addressing that yet. Otherwise, everything works fine, but I don't play games on Fedora so I can't comment on that, just using it for work. I doubt that the audio issue will be fixed anytime soon, haven't seen many people talk about it, I don't even know if a bug report exists somewhere.

Ah also Navi is not yet supported for ROCm.

Dainis How is stability? I had cursor and window lag, and I could only run OpenGL apps/games.

EDIT: I should mention these bugs were on Manjaro/Arch and not on tested on Solus.

Stability unfortunately isn't great. Had couple system freezes when using desktop. Don't know what caused this. At those moments I was using file manager, and I don't know it is coincidence or it can indeed cause freezes. I had also few applications running in the background, so not sure.
Astilex I have Manjaro KDE as well. Desktop runs perfectly fine. Bugs in games are related to mesa, since it is first driver implementation for Navi. Mesa 19.3 should fix a lot of bugs. kernel 5.4 also should improve experience. I have no cursor lags though.

I tried to chroot into my Souls installation with the current Manjaro Kernel 5.3 image. Eopkg tells me that I need root privileges, which I definitely have. I tried root user and my own with sudo. Does someone know a solution? I really don't want to swap GPUs again for a simple update..

With the Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT I have had great success with those GPUs paired with Linux 5.4 and Mesa 19.3/20.0-devel to the point of no longer having any lock-ups at least at stock frequencies, etc.

Last update seems resolved system freezes. So far no random crashes or lock-ups.

I currently have a fully updated Solus running on a rx480. I should be getting a 5700 tomorrow. Will it work if I just swap the cards and reboot?

I believe, it should. I had problems because kernel didn't work properly.

I installed the new card yesterday and so far solus is running without any problems.

Unfortunately linux mint isn't doing so well but I expected that as it is based on such an old version of ubuntu.

My previous post was premature in declaring no problems. With the 5700 installed Solus won't wake from sleep. I have tried several times and installed all the updates over the last couple of weeks hoping that the problem would be fixed by new drivers but no luck so far.

Any other 5700 series users having the same problem?

babybio No such problem, but I'm on Fedora though, so it's hard to compare. My experience has been pretty good so far, with very minor annoyances (Firefox sometimes breaks sound output through DisplayPort, can't think of anything else). I can wake up from sleep as usual, and it worked since the very first 5.3 kernel.

By the way, JoshStrobl posted on reddit a few days ago to say that the team is waiting for Mesa 19.3 before making a new ISO. Not sure if anything else will get in the way of the ISO in the meantime, but at least support for Navi should be getting pretty good by then.
