HolySoap As far as I can tell, I can't install Solus so I can't test it. I think that to test it you would need another GPU to use during installation and then swap, or maybe with a CPU that has integrated graphics.

Very early in this thread someone claims to have installed Solus using the Gnome iso, but I can't do it and they're not replying anymore.

Now, I'm stuck wit black screen during the boot. I can't even log in to console anymore.

Dainis I always had this behavior. Was it different for you before?

Yes, with 5.2 I could log in to console. Had black screen with blinking underscore and I could do Ctrl+Shift+F2 to switch to console and log in. That way I could at least update system. Now I have frozen black screen, and computer doesn't respond to whatever key combination I press.

Dainis So you managed to install Solus on a Navi card, or did you swap card on an existing install to get there? If the former, can you share how you achieved it? Very interested

polomi Swapped from GTX 1070 to 5700 XT. As Isaid, I could log into terminal. Just did eopkg rm nvidia-glx(don't remember exacly now) and did also sudo usysconf run -f to reset system to its defaults

Currently the RX 5700 XT support is undergoing lots of debugging.

If anyone would like to know the status of RX 5700 support I would keep an eye on this:

The most recent complaints on that thread seem to be improving where people are seeing sdma hangs less often.
I would like to think we will have full support by Linux 5.4, but it might be Linux 5.5 if this keeps moving at this pace.

Obviously the Solus Devs never give an ETA on this stuff so I would just watch that link for now for those who really want to know how development outside of Solus is going.

As a side note I did swap out my RX 580 with the RX 5700 XT and only got a black screen on Linux 5.3 for those who might want to try.

I also have only black screen with RX 5700XT even with 5.3 kernel. But I think I found why . Navi family only works with llvm 9 and solus ships with 8.
So I guess we are almost there.

SIde note: I don't if llvm 9 is eligible for the solus repo. The github tags show the last official stable release as 8.0.1 and not 9.0.

Trillon008 I'm not so sure of that. Looking at the official LLVM site: https://llvm.org/

They seem to be promoting the download of LLVM 9.0.0 now. That has been like that since September 19th.

It's also not listed under Git on the Releases page: http://releases.llvm.org/

So either GIthub is outdated or the site is misleading. Maybe one of the Solus Devs might be able to comment on this matter.

I already reinstalled Solus with my RX570 because of kernel 5.3.7 release ☹️
So it's only Windows for now..

If I recall correctly, Solus often does not update to x.0.0 versions for very important packages. I'm pretty sure it's the case for the kernel, I wouldn't be surprised if it were also the case for a compiler like this.

It's part of what gives it the "stable" rolling release label.

But it could be for some other reasons I don't know about as well, like a bug. I can't seem to find anything on the dev portal though.

It seems that they have released x.0.0 versions before regarding LLVM I see it for 8, 7, and 6.
So its probably something else that might be preventing it like you said.

Could we add LLVM 9 binaries ourselves? 🤔

aventu No, mesalib needs to be rebuilt against it for Navi's drivers to be 100%. I know that @joebonrichie has been looking into updating it, but I haven't personally had time or I'd do it myself.

aventu Not just that, LLVM is used at run-time to compile shaders to native code in the mesalib drivers for OpenGL and Vulkan.

It seems like LLVM has been updated a couple of days ago. Did anyone test yet?

It looks like the next ISO might very well be bootable! 😁

polomi I don't have the hardware in hand to test, but the kernel, mesa, and LLVM should all be sorted for initial support for the card. However, there may be a bunch of fixes in mesa-git that we don't have yet.
