v3l0ct I don't think so. That would be only to play games and get good performance, right? But it wouldn't prevent the computer from booting and doing all the non intensive stuff. That's my understanding, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Mesa 19.2.1 is a week or so away, so two weeks from being in Solus anyway. Not too long.

polomi Not 100% sure, I run Arch on one of my other computers so i read their forums and from what I read people have updated: Kernel 5.3, Mesa 19.2, LLVM 9 and updated firmware with Navi 10 support. Of course, that's on Arch so please take it for what it is.

Live Solus Budgie USB had radeon support enabled but once installed it was disabled. Had to go and fix this after the installation by running some terminal commands from the live USB (see the last post on the thread linked above).

Jumpy I don't get to the install part, I have the blinking cursor before, while running off the USB stick. I see some boot messages, then the text login prompt, then the blinking cursor. So I think it's different from you.

However, reading your post tipped me off, I realized that it's a new PC and besides setting the RAM XPM, I didn't fiddle with Bios settings. It means I probably had secure boot activated? I need to check on this as a possible cause. EDIT: Well, secure boot wasn't the issue, it was already disabled by default.

GPU: Sapphire Pulse RX 5700
CPU : Ryzen 3600

Ranmaero Yeah, shouldn't be long now. It seems like the only thing missing before a new iso is moving to Fastly servers.

polomi That's not going to magically get you 5.3, we reverted from 5.3 to 5.2.x because it broke a bunch of NVIDIA systems.

JoshStrobl Oh snap, I didn't notice. Well, thanks for letting me know. Any suggestion of an alternative distro that I could use until Solus 4.2? I tried Fedora but got annoyed that it wasn't trivial to get DRM content playing in Firefox.

polomi Unless you want to run Manjaro unstable or Arch, you're probably better off waiting. There is a tutorial from Ubuntu 19.04 that i found on google. Supposedly Ubuntu 19.10 has it working but it's beta only.

Just install ubuntu 18.04(LTS) and the amdgpu driver. Ubuntu budgie is my flavor 😁. Firefox DRM works flawlessly there 😀

It works fine under Solus too? I watch Netflix in Firefox and that requires "DRM" (HTML5 EME bits).

JoshStrobl I think he's reacting to what I said about Fedora earlier. I'm running Fedora 31 while waiting for a 5.x kernel Solus iso, but I have a lot of friction with various things including getting Firefox to play DRM content.

By the way I couldn't install the Ubuntu 19.10 either, but I didn't try very hard. For Fedora I had to pass nomodeset, then update once in the session to get kernel 5.3.5, then remove nomodeset. It wouldn't boot with the kernel of the iso (5.3.1 iirc).

It seems like 5.3 is back in. Assuming testing goes well, does it mean that the new ISO will be on 5.3 after all? There might still be hope for me yet! 😁

5.3 is in repository? Hopefully, binary blobs for Navi are in repository too and not like latest in Ubuntu release 🙂

As for the Navi firmware, I thought I noticed someone adding it but I can't seem to find it at the moment.

HolySoap As far as I can tell, I can't install Solus so I can't test it. I think that to test it you would need another GPU to use during installation and then swap, or maybe with a CPU that has integrated graphics.

Very early in this thread someone claims to have installed Solus using the Gnome iso, but I can't do it and they're not replying anymore.
