Solus Update Post for Week 45, 2025

Not all good on Plasma Wayland. I have about 50% cpu usage which looks to be plasmashell.
Restarted without any changes.
I will try logging off and into an X11 session.
It's very late here so will most likely do more diagnostics in about 8 hours from now.

I have heard that Plasma 6.5.x brought changes to blur. So just guessing but if your system is ancient / low powered maybe that is the problem. You can try disabling blur in system settings -> window management -> desktop effects -> untick blur and apply.

I say this because my NUC before I had to return it could not handle the old blur and ran like 💩

Updated Budgie from terminal rebooted seems ok but my dock will not hide anymore
tried flipping settings.
I got no errors on update.

Harvey Thanks for the quick reply and possible answer, unfortunately the blur toggle changed nothing. Processor is an i5 gen 7 so not that old.
Updates on my i3 gen 4 tablet went fine so I am guessing that it was something that went wrong during update.
Tried sudo eopkg check | grep Broken | awk '{print $4}' | xargs sudo eopkg it --reinstall to check the install but something in eopkg has changed because that won't work. I just get eopkg help screen.
Tried to roll back to previous state but that also failed.
At the moment I'm thinking of re-installing which might be the easiest way unless there are any other suggestions.

Edit: Found that I could access eopkg repair via Solseek. Doing that now.

Updated 2 Plasma bare metal seems ok after about 30 seconds use. One thing that is not working is num lock on at boot SDDM screen, I will have to search the forum for the fix unless anyone remembers.

Found the fix but it no longer works so will have to open a bug on KDE Bugzilla.

brent We need the backtrace from the crash, which is tricky to get if all you have access to is a tty. If you can save a journal log to a text file, and access it from another system and upload it somewhere, that would be ideal. Otherwise, we're going to have to work from phone camera images.

Make sure you have the following packages installed:
- budgie-desktop-dbginfo
- libgtk-3-dbginfo
- glib2-dbginfo
After installing those, make the crash happen by logging in again.
Access a virtual console with Ctrl+Alt+F2.
journalctl -b > journal.log

If you can access a file saved from this system from another installation,

Upload the file from another installation and post a link to it.

Find the crash in the logs, and take pictures of the error as best as you can with a phone camera.
Post the images here.

the old awk --reinstall command exited almost immediately
kernel uname -a is 6.16.12-323 same as head -n2 command.

logging in again gets me the OH NO SCREEN.
You are saying do not hit the OH NO "ok" button and immediately TTY? correct?

Writing this from my kde machine

Ran package check on my budgie laptop found some broken packages fixed them and checked ok
Then I rebooted
My dock auto hides now just fine.
But my screen is now upsided down..lol
How do I fix that?
Not sure I have seen any screen orientation settings on budgie
Comes up normal for a second then flips.

xorg-driver-input-libiinput and gnome-appl-list was the 2 broken packages

Hmm when I rotate laptop screen rotates but never right side up

Axios You should be able to go into System Settings -> Displays and see what the orientation is set to. Sounds like somehow it got set to Landscape Flipped. You should be able to change it there and see if it sticks.

Original-Syn Budgie doesnt have that in displays or anywhere I can find
This Is a lenovo Ideapad fold the screen back and use like tablet since the screen image rotates

brent Looks like buudgie-panel is segfaulting and crashes when it retries.

You could potentially fix it with a budgie-panel reset command. That would obviously set it to the default, and you would have to redo your customizations. It could be a plugin or something that was used on it that the update didn't like or corruption.

But I would wait to hear back from the team.

Original-Syn there was also a peculiar memory problem (hardware?) and and keyboard problems. they may have been benign.
I have that old panel reset command somewhere....that only happens to me whenan applet wrecks something the n depressingly 2 hours of tweaks disappeared...but I was always grateful to have it back 🙂

no plugins but not sure what you mean? a plugin for the panel? or do you mean applet? for example?
just can't remember any moves like this.

reset panel twice ever..what I do remember as reasons are:
1) display manager failed (update maybe)
2) I introduced an applet

both long ago.

sudo systemctl stop iio-sensor-proxy.service
and the landscape setting showed up in displays and was inverted flipped right
and it worked but of coarse when i reboot it will do it again.
Something with this update caused it to go out to lunch
I could disable it but may want to use it sometime
