Heya folks! It's sync day, and that means it's time for the weekly Solus roundup!
This week, all users on the Shannon package repository, also known as the stable repository, can opt in to going through the epoch update. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, check out our blog post on the subject. After next week's sync, assuming that no major issues are found, all users on Shannon will be moved to the new Polaris repository, whether they have opted in or not.
Our kernel packages have received updates. The linux-current
kernel is now at version 6.16.12, and the linux-lts
kernel is now 6.12.52. Along with those, Mesa was updated to 25.2.5. This is a bugfix release for the 25.2 series. The changelog for it can be seen here.
We have some KDE updates this time around. The KDE Frameworks stack has been updated to 6.19.0. It has a bunch of new features and fixes, all of which can be read about here. In addition, the KDE Gear applications have been updated to 25.10.2. This release is a bugfix release for Gear 25.10. All the changes can be found here.
Samba has been updated to 4.22.5, from 4.22.2. There are some security fixes in these updates, so make sure to update if you use Samba shares. Here are the full changelogs:
Quickshell has been added to the repository this week. It is a toolkit for making status bars, widgets, lockscreens, and more, using QtQuick. Use it along with a Wayland window manager such as Niri to build a complete desktop environment. Quickshell has a bunch of different integrations, enabling you to really make your desktop your own.
Fcitx 5 (fcitx5
) has also been added to the repository, along with fcitx5-configtool
, fcitx5-mcbopomofo
and fcitx5-qt
. Fcitx is a generic input method framework, similar to IBus, and is most commonly used in Qt-based environments like KDE Plasma, especially with Asian languages. If you would like to use it, check out their Wiki page on setting up Fcitx.
Lastly, GameHub has been deprecated from the repository. It has been left untouched upstream for a couple of years now, and the repository was archived earlier this year.
Security updates
There are a few security updates this week. Make sure to install updates to get the latest vulnerability protections!
Just a quick note on Flightgear and Simgear, they were not updated to new versions, but we added patches from other distributions.

For the list of currently known issues, see the dedicated thread for it. If you begin experiencing a bug, please look for an issue on our issue tracker, and open a new one if one does not exist.
Thatβs all for this week, folks! We'll be here same time, same place next week for another roundup of the news!
