Hi, I am using budgie but for me discover installed. Should not it be gnome software center?

As a part of the epoch transition, the Solus Software Center will be removed if it is still installed, and replaced with GNOME Software if GNOME is detected, or KDE Discover if Budgie, Plasma, or Xfce are detected. Users can swap out which software center is installed after, if they so wish, or remove them entirely. Note that if you had the old Software Center pinned, as it is by default on Solus, the icon may be broken until you update on Polaris for updated desktop branding packages, and/or manually re-pin an application.

No. The decision was made to have Discover as default Software Center for Xfce, KDE Plasma and Budgie edition and GNOME Software for Gnome edition only.
You are free to replace Discover with GNOME Software though.

In the old SC was that part with bitwig and ocenaudio. Will this come back?

No those things were never in our repository and we have been saying since 2017 that third party section is being deprecated. Use a flatpak, appimage or make other arrangements.

Evidently with so many people being confused about this we did not do a good enough job explaining it. Probably should've added a warning to solus-sc itself, but too late now.

Sorry for the noob question, but if Solus uses AerynOS's tooling, what will be the differences between the two distros?
Will Solus become a derivative of AerynOS?

Solus will always be focused on delivering on the best home computing experience (Plenty of GUI and such), while AerynOS will be bleeding-edge engineering focused. No details is set in stone yet, so there might more (or less) that can differentiate Solus and AerynOS.

I like that the update had a notification telling me about the epoch change. I always thought the Software Centre needed some mechanism for delivering little messages about the updates, e.g. "such-and-such package is being removed, here's why, and here are some alternatives..."

Sebastian You have to change the EXEC line that it points to the location where you have saved the script.

going to do this later today. where do you suggest I save the script. what is 'best practices' in this case?

Doesn't really matter. Somewhere in your home folder. I personally have all my scripts in ~/scripts/
Also, I have updated the pastebin link of my initial post about the script to point to a newer version of the script that also works when on unstable repository.

Sebastian Nice. I was looking into adding something like this for those using Solseek as well. I had not gotten very far to looking into the notification side yet. Also, when I was looking into it, for those using Flatpaks, you can use :
flatpak remote-ls --updates | wc -lwhich will return the number of updates and 0 if none.

logged in today. always do my updates then.
flatpak first--had about 10 packages. by the timeflatpak update got to its 10th package, that's when the Sys Update message popped up (qt package).

So maybe 45 sec passed? Solus was 10 sec (I think) and always beat me to it (sometimes), I may tinker with yours my sweet spot may be 20-25.
PS--it is SO nice to have an alert after removing discover, thank you.
