MateXfce-User After moving to XFCE or Budgie, do the contents of Trash remain the same?
From what I understand of the tool, contents of your user folder, including Trash, should remain. I would still always recommend having an up to date backup of all your user data before doing any changes to the system. That's why we added the warning to back up your stuff.
MateXfce-User And once the Solus Mate transition tool is automatically installed, does it force Solus Mate users to switch desktop, or will it just keep popping up asking the user to go through the process?

The items in your ~/Desktop folder will be preserved. I can't say for sure if you'd have to rearrange them, but that would be a one time thing.
There should be a guide to prepare for the big change. Like taking a screenshot of the desktop so the user can set it up again as it was before the upgrade.
Feel free to submit a request on our bug tracker for this. By opening an issue, it will allow us to coordinate and keep track of progress.
I'm not sure about the details in regards to your other questions. Maybe @joebonrichie can answer those.
