Harvey I use Zoho. Great replacement for Outlook. They have an appimage, web client, and phone apps. Doesn't cost much for just the base mail package. I use it for both my business account and personal.

zmaint I was fortunate enough to get a personal free account with zoho several years ago. I think they charge for new personal accounts now. I also started using BB a couple of years ago when I started having problems with TB. I rarely get any spam and BB makes it easy to set up a spam filter. The two of them make a great combo.

I've had Zoho for maybe 12 years. It's fantastic. It is "supposed to" fall on a privacy spectrum somewhere between google and proton, right down the middle.
It's my MAIN personal/business account. I'm not going anywhere. It serves me well.

I could not pollute that account with all the 🤮 I have sent to Yahoo.

I have to figger out a way out my yahoo conundrum.

To anyone: where do y'all send your junk, registration info, one-time account crap, and general BS?
Do you just crowd your main account with this crap? Thx.

Citfta They do, but it's not much and to me it doesn't really matter because I need the business side of it. The personal email side for me is essentially a free bonus. I liked EM Client back in the day on Windows, but they staunchly refuse to make it available for linux. Evolution had great potential but never worked quite right. I've not really found anything else that lets me use my own domain name and works with Exchange calendars and stuff... and also has a matching phone app.

I use Firefox Relay (does not require using firefox).

For free you can create 5 email masks but you can delete / create new ones at will (obviously losing access to the deleted ones). It forwards the emails from the email mask you create to yours so the other party never knows your real email address. An example address looks like this pocj8z32@mozmail.com and you just use that when registering on a site.

From Mozilla Relay's side you can choose to automatically block promotional emails, block all or forward all.

Since BB makes it easy to have more than one account I have my desktop set up with 2 email accounts for stuff like that. I keep only my zoho account on my laptop which is my main PC for daily use.

brent lol that is what gmail is for. My personal domain is where my work and important personal email go for things I want. You could also make a throwaway email account, like brentsjunkmail@gmail.com and just use that whenever you sign up for the stuff that you know is going to be spam generation. Also in the US, companies that are legit are required to provide an opt out link, I use those judiciously (just make sure they are not phishing links). I get like 3 emails a day. My wife gets like 1200. She signs up for everything, never unsubs. Total dumpster fire.

Harvey @brent, I use DuckDuckGo email protection in a similar way. It allows you to create as many duck.com email addresses as you like, strips trackers and forwards them to a real email address of your choice. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to manage these duck.com addresses, but as they're designed to be throwaway to some extent that is a minor inconvenience to me. Currently, I have all duck.com email forwarded to a Gmail account, but I may change that if I find another provider that fits the bill. Zoho does seem to offer a free account still, but the free version does not support IMAP connection...

Oh shit. I hated Yahoo from the first day I met it - to create an email in Yahoo you need to confirm your identity in Instagram! What is this if not Western intelligence agencies linking personality telemetry into one big account?

Well, since I posted this, Yahoo has been blocking my access every other day. That's more than I actually use this account. Thanks for the good ideas.

A webmail client is just another client. Just like Thunderbird, Claws etc. The only difference is that Thunderbird is a local client, and the web client is on a server. Both are just interfaces to view and manage your email. There's nothing wrong with preferring one or the other.

The only way to not have a "middleman" is to read the text from IMAP directly on the server without any client at all. That's not feasible. Just want to clarify things.

for three days Yahoo held their ground and denied me access. Then they gave up. They made their point?
I disabled nothing.
I've had full access the last week.
Still don't feel I won the war or nothing.
So much weirdness.
